Anthony Mackie and Tom Holland’s playful feud dates back to 2018 when Holland innocently mocked Mackie for not having a solo movie despite playing Falcon in the MCU. Years later, Mackie finally stars in his own film, Captain America: Brave New World, taking on Steve Rogers’ mantle after Chris Evans' departure following the Russo Brothers' 2019 Avengers: Endgame. Although Mackie recently claimed that his upcoming movie is better than any of Holland’s films, he admitted that the Spider-Man actor was right after reflecting on the events of San Diego Comic-Con 2024.

In a post on Instagram, Mackie expressed amusement after Marvel Studios played the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World in front of the crowd at Hall H. The actor took time to let everything sink in, finally admitting that Holland was right—that it is different to have his own movie.

“I had to take time and let the scope of what happened sink in,” he captioned his post featuring photos from the event with his co-stars Gian Carlo Esposito and Harrison Ford, among others. “You were right @tomholland2013, it is different when you go with your own movie!”

Mackie and Holland’s friendly rivalry has come a long way, with the two exchanging funny banters every chance they get. After Mackie called Holland out about his new Spider-Man-themed ride in Disneyland in 2021, the latter clapped back at him, saying he might have beaten him on his own ride, but he still got nothing without his own-themed ride.

“You know, he can brag about beating me on my own ride – which I haven't actually ridden yet – but until he's got his own ride, he's got nothing,” he told ComicBookMovie. “He doesn't have a leg to stand on.”

That may soon change now that Mackie has officially become Captain America. After playing a supporting character for years as Falcon, he will finally take center stage in Captain America: Brave New World. Though he still has a long way to go to be on Holland’s level, with the latter having three solo Spider-Man movies to his name and an upcoming Spider-Man 4, there may be more coming for Mackie.
