Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launched in November and claimed the top spot as the best-selling game of the month in the United States by dollar sales, but industry analyst Mat Piscatella of Circana has declared that EA's Battlefield 6 is now "extremely likely" to end 2025 as the overall best-selling title in the region.
The prediction comes amid the latest sales data from Circana, which tracks dollar sales in the North American market. As of November 29, 2025, Battlefield 6—released in October—holds the No. 1 spot in year-to-date rankings by revenue. In contrast, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which launched in November, debuted as the top-selling title for that month but sits at No. 7 overall for the year. It ranks behind Battlefield 6, NBA 2K26, Monster Hunter Wilds, Borderlands 4, EA Sports College Football 26, and Madden NFL 26.
Piscatella noted that full-game dollar sales for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in November fell below those of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 from the previous year, contributing to a double-digit decline for the franchise compared to November 2024 (as reported by IGN). This underperformance has flipped earlier expectations, where analysts anticipated Black Ops 7 would claim the annual crown due to the series' consistent dominance.
Battlefield 6 has demonstrated exceptional strength since its launch, with EA confirming over 7 million copies sold in its opening days and reports indicating the figure climbed to 10 million shortly after. The title achieved the highest single-month tracked dollar sales in the US in three years, surpassing even major releases like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II in 2022.
Several factors appear to be influencing these trends. Battlefield 6 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, focusing on current-generation platforms with large-scale multiplayer warfare, destructible environments, and a return to class-based gameplay. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 supports a broader range of platforms, including last-generation consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and is available day-one on Xbox Game Pass. This subscription access likely reduces traditional full-game purchases on Xbox, though it bolsters overall engagement for Microsoft.
If Battlefield 6 maintains its lead through December—traditionally a strong sales period driven by holiday spending—it would mark a rare upset for the Call of Duty series. The franchise has topped US annual charts nearly uninterrupted for years, with notable exceptions including Hogwarts Legacy in 2023 and Red Dead Redemption II in 2018. A non-Call of Duty shooter has not outsold the series since 2006.
Full-year 2025 data from Circana is expected in January 2026, which will confirm the final rankings. Globally, however, earlier predictions suggested Black Ops 7 could still perform strongly due to the franchise's entrenched audience and multi-platform reach. For now, in the key US market, Battlefield 6 appears poised to end 2025 on top.
