The anime adaptation of Ascendance of a Bookworm is pressing onward. The official website and social media accounts for the series announced on October 3 that a sequel anime adapting Part 4 of Miya Kazuki's light novel series is now in production, with WIT Studio returning to handle the animation.
The new installment will adapt Founder of the Royal Academy's So-Called Library Committee, the fourth part of the original novels, continuing directly from Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke. The announcement did not include a premiere date or broadcast window.
To commemorate the reveal, an ending-card illustration drawn by original novel illustrator You Shiina was shared through the anime's official X account. No new staff or cast members were announced alongside the Part 4 confirmation. The most recent season was directed by Yoshiaki Iwasaki, with series composition by Mariko Kunisawa, character designs by Aiko Minowa, and music by Michiru.
What is Ascendance of a Bookworm about?
Ascendance of a Bookworm (Honzuki no Gekokujō) is a Japanese isekai fantasy light novel series written by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by You Shiina. It began as a web novel on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in 2013 before TO Books acquired it for print publication, releasing 33 volumes between January 2015 and December 2023. J-Novel Club publishes the novels in English.
The story follows Urano Motosu, a book-obsessed college student who dies in an accident just after landing her dream job as a librarian — only to wake up as Myne, a frail five-year-old girl in a medieval-style world where books are rare, hand-copied luxuries reserved for the nobility. Determined to read again no matter what it takes, she sets out to make books herself, rising through a rigid class society on the strength of her knowledge from her past life.
The anime adaptation began in 2019 with animation by Ajia-do, which produced the first three seasons covering Parts 1 and 2 of the novels. WIT Studio took over production with the fourth season, Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, which premiered in April 2026 and adapted Part 3, in which Myne — now renamed Rozemyne — begins her new life as the adopted daughter of Ehrenfest's archduke.
J-Novel Club's official story description for the isekai series reads:
"Rozemyne awakens from her two-year sleep to a world that isn't as she remembers it. The strange sensation fills her with unease, but she has no time to rest—she is soon to be enrolled in the Royal Academy as an archduke candidate, where she will be taught how to control her mana, make magic tools, and perform the magic needed to rule as an archduke. She begins dormitory life with colorful teachers and students from other duchies, aiming to be the best big sister possible... but there is little chance things will go according to plan when there is a massive library on the premises. She charges there at once, the other archduke candidates and even the royal family disappearing from her mind entirely. She truly will do anything for books! Now begins a new chapter of this biblio-fantasy, with a school as its setting! This volume includes two original short stories, a four-panel manga drawn by You Shiina, and the results of the second popularity poll."
All current seasons of the anime, including Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, are streaming on Crunchyroll in a range of subtitled and dubbed languages. A streaming home for the Part 4 adaptation has not been announced yet, but given the franchise's history, Crunchyroll is the likely destination for the new season outside Japan.
