The upcoming second season of Arcane will be the show's final chapter. Netflix has released a new teaser trailer and first images for Arcane Season 2, which is confirmed to be the animated show's final chapter, but there are "many stories to tell" in the fantasy world of Riot Games' League of Legends and animation studio Fortiche. The second season is set to premiere in November 2024. Watch the trailer for Arcane Season 2 below:
“’Arcane ‘is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche,” explained co-creator Christian Linke in a statement (via Variety). “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”
The animated series, inspired by Riot Games' League of Legends multiplayer online game, follows the origins of League champions Jinx (voiced by Ella Purnell) and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld), and they become involved in the power struggle between the oppressed underground city of Zaun and the utopian steampunk city of Piltover. In the finale of the first season, Jinx launches an explosive attack on the Piltover council, which "sets the stage for a dire escalation of the conflict between Piltover and Zaun," the official synopsis for Season 2 reads.
The new Arcane Season 2 trailer picks up directly after Jinx's attack, with all of Piltover on the hunt for her and the toxic drug known as Shimmer. The video concludes with a climactic showdown between Jinx, who's wielding a gatling gun, and Vi, armed with her huge gauntlets.
The nine-episode series debuted in November 2021, and it won four Emmys, including Outstanding Animated Program – the first streaming show to win in that category. Arcane has received praise for its stunning animation, well-developed characters, compelling story, and a brilliant soundtrack. In addition, the music album for Arcane was nominated for a 2022 Billboard Music Award for Top Soundtrack.
Steinfeld and Purnell will return to voice the iconic siblings, and the rest of the confirmed cast include: Katie Leung (Caitlyn), Reed Shannon (Ekko), Mick Wingert (Heimerdinger), Ellen Thomas (Ambessa), Amirah Vann (Sevika), and Brett Tucker (Singed). We can expect more new cast members to be announced for Arcane Season 2, which is executive produced by Linke, Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck.
