Andor Showrunner Says Fans Will “Never See Star Wars the Same Way Again”

Andor Season 2 star Diego Luna also teased how fans will see Rogue One: A Star Wars Story differently after they finish watching the prequel series.

Star Wars fans already know what will happen to Cassian Andor after the events of Andor Season 2. The final episodes of the prequel series will lead directly into the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and showrunner Tony Gilroy has long made that clear. Diego Luna’s rebel hero will join a group of rebels on a suicide mission to steal the Death Star plans. Now, Gilroy has teased that once Andor Season 2 (final season) airs, fans of the franchise won't see Star Wars the same way again.

Gilroy and Luna recently talked with Empire to discuss what's coming to the Rebellion as they wage war on the Empire. Gilroy teased how Season 2 will show the impact on the characters involved as they participate in a wide-scale revolution.

What is the real effect of time — pressurised,  painful  time — on ordinary people that hopefully you care a lot about? What happens to their love affairs? Their relationships? Their homes? Their children? What happens to everything around them, if you’re thrust into this vice-grip of revolution? Those are the big tectonic moves of the second season.

Gilroy also commented on what's at stake for Luthen Rael. “Now, all of a sudden, he’s going public. What do you do if your currency is privacy and secrecy, and failure is death?” Gilroy teased. “How do you scale up? How do you play with others? How do all the disparate pieces of the Rebellion come together in Yavin?”

Diego Luna also talked about how audiences will see Rogue One differently after watching Andor Season 2. "You’re gonna hear some lines [on a rewatch] and go [gasps gutturally],” Luna said. “Before, you just passed over them. Not anymore.”

This echoes what Luna said in a recent interview with SFX magazine (via GamesRadar). The Andor star teased that the audiences will see Rogue One differently, thanks to the amount of knowledge they'll get after watching the final season of Andor. Here's what he told the magazine:

If you have your DVD or Blu-ray of Rogue One, you should plug it in as soon as the season ends, and you'll see a film that will be resignified. You're going to see it differently, with so much information you didn't have before. You knew nothing about this bunch of Rebels that got together and made this sacrifice, and then we did a show of 24 episodes about one of them. I definitely believe it's going to change the experience because it's now so full of answers – almost many more than you even wanted when you watched Rogue One, like who Cassian's mother was, what was the first droid he had a strong connection with [that'll be B2EMO], how his bedroom was… You've seen enough of this man now that you will go, like, 'Holy shit, that’s what he meant?'

Andor series is a prequel to 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is a prequel to the first Star Wars film in the franchise, Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope. The story of Andor takes place after the events of Episode III, during the rise of the Galactic Empire, and five years before the events of Rogue One. The show is focused on the construction of the Death Star, which was prominently featured in the first trailer.

"While Season 1 followed Cassian’s reluctant journey from cynical nobody to revolutionary volunteer, the long-awaited conclusion in Andor Season 2 will see the characters and their relationships intensify as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance," the official synopsis in a previous press release teased. "Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound."
