Warning: The following story contains minor spoilers from Star Wars: Ahsoka Episode 7.
In the seventh episode of Star Wars: Ahsoka, titled Dreams and Madness, featured the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, but the star of the prequel trilogy wasn't the only character who made a surprising appearance. When Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) finds herself in a military trial, she is rescued by C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) who saves her on behalf of Princess Leia. C-3PO presents evidence that Leia sanctioned Hera's mission to attempt to save Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) and Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo).
Earlier this week, Daniels, who portrayed C-3PO in different Star Wars titles, beginning with the original Star Wars movie back in 1977, took to X (formerly Twitter) to thank fans for welcoming his return to the franchise. Now, the 77-year-old actor has taken to Instagram to reveal more details about his return in Ahsoka.
"Never thought Threepio would have the honour to appear in the rightly lauded, Ahsoka," Daniels wrote. "So we were both surprised to get a call from the Master himself, Dave Filoni. And then, there we were, enveloped by the utterly compelling FX of The Volume. And there they were, the dedicated crew and the cast of lovely and talented humans, and droids."
He added, "3PO and I have rarely had such an enthusiastic welcome, nor such loving support throughout our days on set. I hear that fans were moved to tears by seeing their golden friend, once again on screen. I was equally moved by the surprise ovation from the assembled team, as I finally emerged from that iconic figure. Maybe this is a good time to thank them and so many millions, for the love they have shown my friend over so many years. So... on his behalf... Thank you."

Last year, Daniels made his live-action Disney+ debut, playing C-3PO in the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries, so it's there's precedent already for his exciting and surprising appearance in Ahsoka Episode 7.

In November 2020 interview with CinemaBlend, Daniels said that he has no plans to retire from the role of C-3PO. "No, I'm never going to retire," Daniels said bluntly. "They're going to have to throw me out the door... Life is not over, the films, maybe taking a back seat for 3PO, for a very very long time, I would think. But there's all sorts of other media, particularly now with digital formats, that I'm so happy, and grateful and proud to be part of."
Daniels also talked to ComicBook.com about the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, and when he was asked if he was hoping to appear in any of the live-action Disney+ shows, his response was pertty enthusiastic. "I would like to appear in all of them," Daniels said. "In all the new shows, I would like to appear in The Mandalorian... Dave Filoni should be listening to us now."
However, at the time of this writing, it's still not confirmed if Daniels will reprise his iconic role in a future Star Wars project once again. Perhaps, he'll make another surprising appearance, but fans will have to wait until the new projects are released.
