After a long wait, Lucasfilm has finally confirmed the coming of Ahsoka Season 2. Amid the fears that Ahsoka Tano’s story may have come to an end, Star Wars announced that the second season is now in development, along with the news that a new movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, will go into production. With this much-awaited update, the series star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who plays the role of Hera Syndulla, breaks her silence about it.
Now that the SAG-AFTRA strike has finally ended, Winstead can talk about her recent projects, including Ahsoka. The Disney+ series saw her reunion with Rosario Dawson after the 2007 Quentin Tarantino film Death Proof, and being the wife of the Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor, she surely has a great knowledge of the franchise, being on the set of her husband’s own Star Wars show. That said, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress talked about the upcoming Ahsoka Season 2 and admitted to having only “little” knowledge about it.
“I can say that I genuinely know very little,” she said. “I’m really happy to hear that it’s being talked about.”
The actress continued that she knew nothing about Ahsoka Season 2, so she would say nothing about it, which was the Star Wars actors' similar mantra so that they couldn’t say anything about the project. Winstead revealed that Lucasfilm generally keeps them in the dark, which she deems fit, knowing that she may say more than she’s allowed to.
What to Expect from Ahsoka Season 2
The first season ended with a major cliffhanger. Sabine and Ashoka are stranded on the planet of Peridea, while Ezra and Thrawn are back in the Star Wars galaxy. Now that they have switched places and Ahsoka and Sabine have already accepted their fate, Ezra will never allow them to stay in that place. Hence, the freedom fighter may go on a mission to save the two in Ahsoka Season 2. But while that’s happening, Thrawn may try to rebuild the empire by seeking out Imperial cells across the galaxy.
As for Baylan, what will happen to this character after its actor, Ray Stevenson, dies in May 2023 remains to be seen. There’s a debate about whether Lucasfilm should start a recasting or give the Jedi General an alternate story to continue his journey. But as the studio has already refused the recasting, it's a big question what Baylan's future will be.
Disney+ has yet to reveal when Ahsoka Season 2 will be released. By the looks of it, the new season is still in its early development, so it may still take time before new updates drop. Rest assured that EpicFlix will quickly deliver the latest news when it happens.
