Ahsoka Episode 6 just delivered a clever and meta nod to the Star Wars saga, delighting fans of the prequel era. In addition to that, the surprising opening scene offered some insight into the franchise's most notable features.
In Ahsoka Episode 6, Ahsoka Tano and her trusty droid companion Huyang are biding their time inside the mouth of a purrgil en route to the distant galaxy where Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger are in exile. As they try to pass the long hours traveling in hyperspace, an interesting exchange unfolds. Ahsoka brings up the stories that Huyang used to share with younglings at the Jedi Temple. To this, the droid recalls "History of The Galaxy, Parts One, Two, and Three", and Ahsoka chimes in with, "One being the best, of course."
Sure, they could be talking about the fictional history of the galaxy but the clever dialogue also plays with the structure of the Star Wars film saga, which is divided into three main sets: the original trilogy, the prequels, and the sequels. While Ahsoka's statement could be interpreted as her favoring the original trilogy, given that they were released first, fans have embraced it as an affectionate tribute to the prequel films.
Chronologically speaking, the prequels indeed come first in the Star Wars timeline, making Ahsoka's reference align perfectly. Moreover, considering that Ahsoka herself is a character introduced in the prequel era, her appreciation for The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith feels particularly fitting.
This clever moment adds a layer of humor and nostalgia for fans, showcasing Ahsoka's connection to the broader Star Wars universe and her role as a beloved character within it. However, the opening scene also has a meta ending. Ahsoka ultimately decides to let Huyang tell her one of the stories and he begins by saying, "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ..."
Any Star Wars fan would recognize this opening considering that we've seen it so many times throughout the franchise. But the idea of Huyang starting his story this way also kickstarted multiple headcanons for fans.
Not surprisingly, viewers are commending Ahsoka Episode 6 for a brilliant opening and an amazing storytelling. With that in mind, people are looking forward to the seventh episode now that both Thrawn and Ezra have finally returned. Ahsoka Episode 7 will premiere on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
