The two-episode premiere of Ahsoka is finally out and not surprisingly, the series is loaded with mystery and action. However, there are also A LOT of heartbreaking moments in the first two episodes of the Disney+ series. For instance, Sabine Wren's decision to join Ahsoka Tano is followed by a powerful ritual that parallels what happened in Star Wars Rebels.
It's no secret that Ahsoka serves as a sequel to Star Wars Rebels, following the remaining Ghost crew members after the Battle of Lothal and their continuing search for Ezra Bridger. It's a search that continues in the live-action series and it can't happen without Sabine's involvement.
In Ahsoka Episode 2, Sabine ultimately decides to join her former mentor in the search for Grand Admiral Thrawn, and by extension, Ezra as well. Before she leaves, Sabine takes time to meditate about her decision and draws a knife to cut her long hair.
It's a loaded moment especially if you have seen Star Wars Rebels. In the fourth season, Kanan Jarrus prepares to sacrifice himself for the sake of his friends. Before heading out on what would be his final mission, Kanan kneels to reflect before cutting his hair. Sabine's scene in Ahsoka is almost identical to what happens in Rebels and the symbolism isn't lost on fans.
Interestingly, the second episode of Ahsoka also brought the Rebels epilogue to live-action. Before heading out in the search for Ezra, Sabine visits the temple to look at the Ghost crew mural one last time. She then joins Ahsoka as they head out to a completely new galaxy.
It is an amazing premiere that ties the new show with the animated series. With that in mind, we can't wait to find out what happens as Ahsoka and Sabine set off on the hunt for Thrawn.
Ahsoka Episode 3 has not yet been given an official title. Nevertheless, the next episode of the Star Wars series will premiere on Disney+ on August 29, 2023.
