After a long wait, not to mention several title changes, Marvel Studios has finally released the first trailer for Agatha All Along. Aside from giving a good look at Kathryn Hahn’s return as Agatha Harkness, three years after Jac Schaeffer’s 2021 WandaVision, it confirms the Scarlet Witch’s fate following the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange 2 leaves the fate of the Scarlet Witch unknown after she brings down the Darkhold Castle atop Mount Wundagore, and a red flash is seen when the mountain collapses. As this divided fans whether she was still alive as her lifeless body was not shown after the destruction, the Agatha All Along trailer confirmed she was dead.

The preview begins with Agatha investigating the death of a mysterious witch with a detective. Later, as she checks the body in a morgue, the tag magically fills with the name W. Maximoff, confirming it’s Wanda Maximoff, the real name of the Scarlet Witch. Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) then appears, telling her that the witch is gone and leaving her trapped in her distorted spell.

This is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe live-action project confirming what happened to the Scarlet Witch after her final battle with the Sorcerer Supreme. The 2023 book Marvel Studios' The Marvel Cinematic Universe - An Official Timeline earlier revealed that she was gone, stating that she was “finally stopped” by her children and marking the end of “two great threats” to the Multiverse. It refers to her and the Darkhold Castle, though it doesn’t reveal her dead body but only a symbol of a white flower and the words, “Major Character Dies.”

Can the Scarlet Witch return to the MCU?

As the MCU is now exploring the Multiverse, there’s still a possibility that the Scarlet Witch will return. The character’s Variant can make her way back in future projects, though it remains to be seen where and when. However, Elizabeth Olsen has already expressed interest in being part of the MCU’s X-Men reboot.

With her connection to the X-Men in Marvel Comics, Olsen told Entertainment Tonight in May 2022 that she would love to be “involved in that capacity” after teasing that she had an idea of how she would be in the film. However, she also said she had to talk to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige before confirming anything.

Someone had mentioned, if they have to bring in the X-Men, that she was such a huge part of those comics. And so I would love to be involved in that capacity. I would love to keep going with this character. I think there are things... I have an idea of something that could be fun as the next step. But again, I really want to talk to Kevin about this stuff… Let me call him up right now.
