Netflix opened the year 2024 with a top series titled Fool Me Once which had the viewers hooked for weeks that it remained on the top spot of Netflix's Top 10 since its arrival. The series piqued the interest of the audience which paved way for the show's prominence over the past days. However, nothing is permanent and with a new show making its way on Netflix, Fool Me Once finally left the top of the heap and passed the crown to American Nightmare which was released on the streamer a few days ago.
Fool Me Once released on New Year's Day on Netflix as the live-action adaptation of the book of Harlan Coben with the same title. Following the story of Maya Stern whose husband, Joe Burkett, was murdered, she found out the surprise of her life after putting a camera on her daughter. Moreover, Maya's niece and nephew also suspected that the murder of their mother and that of Joe's were connected, so they sought to find the truth behind the two instances. This story got many viewers hooked that it sent Fool Me Once to the top of Netflix's Top 10 shows with 153 million hours viewed, far from the second place, The Brothers Sun, which only had 50 million hours viewed.
However, this all changed when American Nightmare entered the scene. The true crime documentary series only has three episodes which arrived on Netflix last January 17th and it dethroned Fool Me Once in mere days after its release, cutting the reign of Fool Me Once short. American Nightmare now holds the #1 spot on Netflix's Top 10 series.

American Nightmare is a true crime documentary series on Netflix which is somehow called as the “real-life Gone Girl” and follows the story of a young couple who recounted a narrative which the police found to be hard to believe. It is about the couple, Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn who were invaded one fateful night in 2015. In a true nightmare, Huskins was kidnapped and the truth about what happened was being compared to the 2012 novel of Gillian Flynn and its film in 2014, Gone Girl.
American Nightmare was created by Felicity Morris and Bernadette Higgins who are known for another top Netflix documentary series titled The Tinder Swindler. The documentary got many viewers hooked and it continues to be on the top spot of Netflix's Top 10 with the intriguing story that it tells.
