X-Men ‘97 did it again! After the shocking Episode 5, Remember It, the recently released Episode 6, Lifedeath – Part 2, once again made fans’ jaw drop with a major character’s return. However, aside from that, the latest episode also sees the Storm getting her powers back and features a reference to Zack Snyder’s 2013 movie, Man of Steel.

Aside from featuring Charles Xavier’s return, X-Men ‘97 Episode 6 saw the continuation of Storm’s story after losing her powers due to a concentrated radiation blast in Episode 2. As she had finally redeemed the abilities she once lost after realizing that losing her powers was also caused by her own lie that being human could be tempting, she took to the skies and slowly transformed.

Fans quickly noticed that this scene looked familiar, with X (formerly Twitter) user @ItsRicoSousa asking the showrunner Beau De Mayo if it were a nod to Superman’s first flight in Man of Steel. And to confirm many’s assumptions, the creator replied and confirmed, “It is.”

By the looks of it, Marvel Studios Animation is letting De Mayo and the animated series writers and directors include their favorite pop culture references in the revival. And though they come in a variety from different franchises, they always make fans excited and want to see more.

How did Storm recover her powers in X-Men ‘97 Episode 6?

If Episode 5 made fans emotional, X-Men ‘97 redeemed itself with its satisfying ending. Storm had finally recovered her Omega-level powers after a confrontation with The Adversary. Forge accompanied Storm to a cave to retrieve a cactus to help heal his wound after being bitten and infected by The Adversary. However, the villain continuously hunted her as she made her way up.

As it turned out, The Adversary was a manifestation of Storm’s fears and doubts after she told Jean that she sometimes wondered what it was like to be human and called its possibility to happen a “tempting daydream” in Episode 2. The demonic being said these words to Storm again, making her realize that she didn’t really lose her power and it was only caused by a mental block stemming from her own lie. Storm admitted to believing her lie and embraced her being a mutant, leading to her powers' return.
