Deadpool & Wolverine surprised everyone when Blade stepped onto the scene as part of the Resistance, a group of heroes who opposed Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) in the Void. It was the first time in 20 years that Wesley Snipes reprised his iconic half-vampire, half-mortal role after David S. Goyer’s 2004 Blade: Trinity. With the renewed interest in the Daywalker, Ryan Reynolds wants Blade to have a send-off movie akin to James Mangold’s 2017 Logan. Now, X-Men '97 creator Beau DeMayo hears Reynolds’ wish and pitches a perfect comeback movie for Snipes’ Eric Brooks in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a post on X, DeMayo pitched an Akira Kurosawa-like story that could pave the way for Blade to return to the big screen after his long absence. While picturing a vampire dystopia and humans being controlled, he claimed the vampire-hunting vigilante was entombed and wanted to introduce the character of Brother Voodoo to live-action. Voodoo would help resurrect Blade, and together, they would hunt Varney and the Darkhood cult to end the vampires’ reign.
“Vampire dystopia where they learned to daywalk and took over. Humans are cattle. Brother Voodoo, part of the human resistance, learns #Blade was desiccated/entombed and resurrects him so they can hunt Varney and the Darkhold cult to wipe out all vampires. Treat it like Kurosawa.”
As expected, this excites fans, with several of DeMayo’s followers praising his idea. User @CJColtsFan revealed the showrunner had him with the introduction of Voodo, while @shawn930 suggested LaKeith Stanfield play the role. Many also said they were “in” this project, and user @mwknows even asked him to give Reynolds his pitch so that they could bring it to fruition.
Ryan Reynolds Wants Wesley Snipes’ Blade to Have a Send-Off Movie Like Logan
A couple of weeks after Deadpool & Wolverine’s release, Reynolds started thanking and honoring the actors who cameod in the movie. One of them was Snipes, and he had nothing but praise for the 62-year-old star for kickstarting Marvel’s movies with his Blade trilogy and creating a market. He even asked his followers to retweet his post to get Marvel Studios’ attention and give Snipes a proper send-off movie like Logan.
Logan has received critical acclaim for its incredible action scenes and emotional depth, becoming the best-reviewed film in the X-Men franchise. It was also R-rated like the Blade trilogy, so Marvel Studios could give Blade a grittier final outing that would fit his character. Like Hugh Jackman, who played the role of Wolverine for 24 years, Snipes also made a legacy as Blade, being the longest-running actor to play a Marvel character in live-action following his return in Deadpool & Wolverine. He even surpassed Jackman in that category in Guinness World Records.
So, if a fourth Blade film will happen, Marvel Studios can consider DeMayo’s pitch to resurrect the franchise. With fans’ positive reception and the excitement of seeing Voodoo on the big screen, his story can work out. Also, with the incredible success X-Men '97 experienced, DeMayo may once again help refresh another Marvel franchise.
