Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, the sequel of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga series by Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto and artist Mikio Ikemoto, continues the story of the first part and shows how characters like Naruto, Kawaki, Sarada, and other characters in Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf Village) have changed over the three-year timeskip. With the fourth chapter expected to release on November 20, 2023, fans still have questions about what happened during the timeskip, including the whereabouts of certain characters, but one thing many fandom really wants to know is: What happened to Sasuke in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex?
Before we answer that question, let's take a look back at what happened in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 80 (the final chapter of the first part of Boruto manga series).
What happened to Sasuke before the timeskip in Boruto?
In the final chapter of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Sarada Uchiha pleaded to her father, Sasuke, that Boruto is innocent after Ada used her power to alter reality to make Kawaki and Boruto swap lives, making everyone (except Sarada and Sumire) believe that Boruto killed Naruto (when in fact, Kawaki trapped Naruto and Hinata in another dimension). When Sasuke told Sarada to go home, she asked him to protect Boruto, surprising him as the reality-changing event awakened her Mangekyō Sharingan.
After Boruto was captured by Team 10, Sasuke rescued him, and the two left the village. He told Boruto about his memories of Kawaki, and mentioned the inconsistencies with the reality, such as Momoshiki's presence and Boruto having the forehead protector he recalled giving Kawaki. Sasuke decided to trust Sarada after finding his memories unreliable. Ada arrived with Daemon, and she promised not to look for Boruto and Sasuke until they returned to Konoha. Knowing that the ninjas of Konoha was sure to pursue them, Sasuke hastened their departure.
What Happened to Sasuke Uchiha in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex - Explained
The first three chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex didn't feature an appearance of Sasuke Uchiha, making fans wonder what happened to him during the timeskip. Fans speculated that he trained Boruto during the three-year gap, but when Boruto surprisingly returned to Konoha in the early chapters of the series, he didn't come with him. However, the fourth chapter may provide the answer fans have been searching for, and it's pretty bad news.
According to Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4 leaks, Sasuke is seen in one of the panels, devoured by a tree, looking unconscious. In the previous chapters of Two Blue Vortex, we've seen this kind of tree during the battle with the Claw Grimes (Code's minions created with the chakra of the Ten-Tails), who have an instinct to consume others, turning into a tree upon biting their target.
Update: Now that the the fourth chapter is out, we learned more about the self-aware divine trees, and it looks like the victims devoured by the tree are sealed and a villainous copy of them are created. It turns out that Sasuke is one of the four villains introduced in Chapter 4, but it looks like it's probably been more than a year since Sasuke was devoured by a divine tree as Boruto is seen in the final panel, apologizing to Sasuke and saying, "You'll have to wait a big longer."
How and when exactly this happened are still a mystery, but this will likely be fully explained in a near-future chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Unfortunately, Sasuke's dire situation shows the terrifying capabilities of the Ten-Tails and the self-aware divine trees, and it'll be up to Boruto (and his few allies) to defeat them and save Sasuke.
We will update this article with the latest plot details about Sasuke as more chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex are released, so stay tuned!
