If you have already watched all of the conflicts and betrayals of Season 2, the good news is that Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 has already been filmed. Set more than a century after the events of Vikings, the Netflix series has followed the escalating tensions between the Vikings and the indigenous English, as well as the conflicting factions of traditional pagan Vikings and Christians.

When fans learned that Netflix had confirmed Vikings: Valhalla Season 3, they nearly lost their minds. The historical drama series created by Jeb Stuart was given the green light for Season 2 and Season 3 in March 2022, with the second season premiering on Netflix on January 12, 2023.

Focusing on the exploits of renowned Vikings Leif Eriksson, Freydis Eriksdottir, and Harald Sigurdsson, Season 1 began with the St. Brice's Day Massacre in 1002 and has the potential to continue until 1066, which is considered the end of the Viking age by many historians. As fans await for more details, here is everything we know about Vikings: Valhalla Season 3.

The title card of the teaser revealed that Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 will not premiere until sometime in 2024, despite Season 2 and Season 3 being renewed and filmed close together, leading many to anticipate a 2023 premiere. The magnificent and brutal third installment of Vikings: Valhalla will be available to stream on Netflix, where the first two seasons are also available.

In May 2022, the Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 production began in Ireland, far from the actual setting of the series in Scandinavia. However, the cinematographers do an outstanding job of immersing the audience in the frozen islands' mossy forests and magnificent seascapes. After five months of filming on the Emerald Isle, the production concluded in October 2022.

Series star Frida Gustavsson, who plays Freydis, confirmed to E! back in January 2023 that Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 has already finished filming. She told the entertainment news outlet in an exclusive interview:

"We've already shot it and it's incredible. It's so good. And I just can't wait for the world to see it. But you're gonna have to wait a little bit longer!"

While there is no risk of actors abandoning the set now that production has concluded, it is likely that Netflix will delay the release of Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 episodes until the cast and crew can properly promote it, as SAG strike rules cover all aspects of promoting their work. Variety recently explained:

"According to the guidelines, SAG-AFTRA members will not be able to attend premieres, do interviews for completed work, go to awards shows, attend film festivals or even promote projects on social media while the strike is in effect. They are also not allowed to attend conventions such as Comic-Con to promote any past or present work made under a SAG-AFTRA contract."

Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 Cast: Who are the actors starring in the upcoming season?

Sam Corlett, who plays Leif Eriksson, Frida Gustavsson, who portrays Freydis, and Leo Suter, who plays Harald, will all reprise their roles as our three favorite Viking warriors in Vikings: Valhalla Season 3. Bradley Freegard as King Canute, Laura Berlin as Queen Emma of Normandy, David Oakes as Earl Godwin, Florian Munteanu as George Maniakes, and Joakim Nattererup as Birkir, among others, are also anticipated to return for the new installment.

The second season of Vikings Valhalla featured more than its fair share of fatalities and dismemberments. As their characters died in the season two finale, it is fair to assume that Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, who portrayed Olaf, Stanislav Callas, who portrayed Jorundr, and Hayat Kamille, who portrayed Mariam, will not return for Vikings: Valhalla Season 3.

Jeb Stuart will continue to serve as the showrunner for the forthcoming third installment, and David Frazee, one of the show's original directors, will also return for Vikings: Valhalla Season 3. Frazee has been a director and cinematographer for numerous television series, including the original Vikings. Stuart first gained recognition as one of the screenwriters for Die Hard. He subsequently wrote the screenplays for a number of action films, including The Fugitive. Stuart's first series, The Liberator, a Netflix miniseries based on a true tale from World War II, was produced in 2020.

Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 Plot: What is the upcoming season about?

Credit: Netflix

The conclusion of Season 2 found Freydis, Leif, and Harold on separate journeys. Fans are anxious to learn whether Freydis and her son's father, Harald, will reunite in Vikings: Valhalla Season 3.

Freydis concealed her pregnancy from Harald after learning of it in the Season 2 premiere. Harald may have viewed this as a betrayal. Audiences will have to wait and see if the couple reconciles or if Harald's heart has been taken by someone else in Vikings: Valhalla Season 3. In the meantime, a bereaved Leif must travel to the home of his ex-lover Mariam to retrieve several objects that will aid him on his expeditions as a great explorer.

Leif and Harold will be reunited, as seen in the trailer, but the treacherous voyage will keep audiences guessing how and where this will occur. In Vikings: Valhalla Season 3, it is anticipated that the Vikings will depart Scandinavia and travel across the ocean to uncharted lands. In the sneak glimpse found on the Netflix Twitter page, viewers can see an oceanfront castle surrounded by tall stone walls, red and purple flags flapping in the wind, and hands moving across a map.

While it is currently unknown what new land the explorers will discover during the upcoming Vikings: Valhalla Season 3, historical evidence suggests that they will explore Newfoundland. While the hunt for new land continues, the battle over Norway will rage on, so the action-packed bloodbath will also continue. However, land conflicts are not the only ones that will continue to rage, as the Vikings will continue to fight over their polarized Pagan and Christian beliefs.
