The SAG-AFTRA strike has been going around lately, halting the production of many movies, including the Spider-Man Universe spin-off, Venom 3. Sony Pictures has temporarily halted the production of the Marvel movie on Friday. The work stoppage of actors was announced on Thursday, and at midnight on Friday, it was called into effect.

It has only been a few weeks since the filming of Venom 3 began at the end of June in Spain. This is the most recent high-profile project on the Hollywood end to stop its production, following Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel, and Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studios knew for a long time that the strikes were inevitable, and some movies even had their backup plans in place in case it happened.

As per the official rules of the SAG strike, actors are prohibited from "rendering all services and performing all work covered by the TV/Theatrical Contracts." The list of barred services mainly includes principal on-camera work such as motion capture work, performing stunts, acting, or performance capture. It also includes principal off-camera work, such as rehearsals and camera tests, ADR [automated dialogue replacement]/looping, makeup tests, voice acting, wardrobe tests, scanning, and fittings.

Unfortunately, the story of Venom 3 still remains a mystery to us. Before the strike, the cast featured Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) in roles that are unknown so far.

Tom Hardy will return as Eddie Brock, who develops a strong bond with an alien symbiote to become the deadly protector known as Venom. Hardy was last seen in the post-credits scene of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Venom 3 is produced by Hutch Parker, Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Matt Tolmach.

The latest Marvel movie from Sony will follow last year’s Morbius and the upcoming Kraven the Hunter. However, it will be long before fans can meet the infamous alien symbiote in Venom 3. Apart from the cast not being able to promote the movie for the entire course of the SAG strike, Sony Pictures is also sitting out San Diego Comic-Con 2023. It is expected that Venom 3 will release in theaters sometime in October 2023, but we can’t be sure yet.
