Major news from the Continent just came in! Aside from the newcomer Liam Hemsworth, who will now take the role of Geralt of Rivia from Henry Cavill, Netflix has announced the addition of Laurence Fishburne in the upcoming The Witcher Season 4 as the fan-favorite books and games character Regis.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Netflix revealed that Fishburne, best known for his role in The Matrix Trilogy, would be part of The Witcher family as the world-wise barber-surgeon. He will be crossing paths with the monster hunter himself, Geralt, in The Witcher Season 4, and fans of the franchise probably know what will happen from there.
Like fans, The School for Good and Evil actor expressed excitement about joining the series. “I’m very excited to be joining the cast and look forward to exploring the wondrous world of The Witcher,” he told Tudum.
Who is Regis in The Witcher Season 4?
Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy, known as Regis, is first introduced in Andrzej Sapkowski’s third novel, Baptism of Fire, from the Witcher Saga. He was a powerful higher vampire over 400 years old when he met Geralt. The character is also described as Dillingen’s barber-surgeon and a Mr. Know It All for being well-educated.
Regis can even be considered a polymath with his vast knowledge of different subjects. But he’s said to have a mysterious past as he joins Geralt’s journey in The Witcher Season 4. With his addition, fans can expect his meeting and flight with Geralt to be epic.
What to Expect from The Witcher Season 4
After being apart from Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and Ciri (Freya Allan) in the third season, Geralt will do everything to find them in The Witcher Season 4. He will get the help of Jaskier (Joey Batey) and Milva (Meng’er Zhang) in this quest. According to showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, this journey is part of the book and will be known as the Hanza, where they will be traveling as a group.
Jaskier and Milva will become Geralt’s newfound family as he realizes he needs help finding Yennefer and Ciri. But knowing Geralt has been denying his emotions, these boundaries he has set for himself will be tested in the new season.
So far, Netflix has yet to reveal when The Witcher Season 4 will be released, though its production will begin this spring. But with Laurence’s coming, this sure excites fans even more.
