The Wheel of Time is getting a prequel film. An animated movie based on Robert Jordan's best-selling books is currently in development. The announcement comes months before the premiere of the Amazon Prime show's second season.
Amazon Prime's series adaptation of The Wheel of Time has proven to be a huge success and fans are already looking forward to the second season. As expected, there are big plans for the franchise beyond the TV series. This would include an animated project inspired by Robert Jordan's novels.
Deadline reports that Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous creator Zack Stentz has been confirmed to work on the animated movie The White Tower. The film is inspired by Robert Jordan’s hit graphic novel series The Wheel of Time and will be produced by iwot productions and Quebec’s Squeeze Studios.
The details about the animated film have not yet been revealed. However, the report confirms that it will follow a young girl with a special power who must face against evil that comes to her village. To learn how to use her gift, she must go to the White Tower in an effort to save the ones she loves.
It certainly sounds like the girl is well on her way to become Aes Sedai or get help from them. Could The White Tower be about Moiraine Damodred or a similar girl? We're waiting for more details on the film soon.
Stentz, who wrote the screenplay for X-Men: First Class and Thor, expressed his excitement for being a part of the franchise.
“I have been a lifelong fan of the world Robert Jordan created, particularly The White Tower, which serves the mysterious Aes Sedai sisterhood as a capitol, residence, school, and fortress. It was a dream fulfilled to be offered the opportunity to author a new story that takes place within an iconic setting that will be immediately familiar to Jordan fans around the world,” he said.
For now, The White Tower has not yet been given an official release date. In the meantime, The Wheel of Time Season 2 will premiere on Amazon Prime on September 1, 2023.
