What happens when two popular isekai anime shows converge into one anime? And remember the fake Ple Ple Pleiades x Kage-jitsu! crossover anime between The Eminence in Shadow and Overlord originally announced as an April Fool's joke earlier this year? Now, the tricks have become treats because the Kadokawa's anime YouTube channel has just released a 10-minute crossover anime featuring the two fan-favorite isekai anime shows.
The Eminence in Shadow and Overlord SD crossover anime features the protagonists of both anime shows swapping bodies. Ainz and Cid have never met in their respective anime series before, but in this new SD crossover, the protagonists of both shows appear to be in a tense conversation. Unfortunately, an English translation hasn't been released yet, but feast on this crossover special while we wait for Overlord Season 5.
The crossover anime was originally announced by Kadokawa on April 1 as an April Fool's joke, listing a TV premiere date of "Arpil 2138." The story features Ainz and Cid swapping places. In the original teaser visual, Overlord protagonist Ainz is seen posing flamboyantly, and The Eminence in Shadow's protagonist watching in annoyance. According to the translation, the caption reads: "The masters have swapped places?! Except there doesn't seem to be a problem?!"
Both isekai series clearly have similarities: they're both based on popular dark fantasy Japanese light novels about a man in a fantasy world playing the role of an edgy character. In The Eminence in Shadow, Cid has delusions of grandeur, while Ainz from Overlord knows he's putting on an act. Both anime shows also still have enough source material to adapt in future episodes, but at the time of this writing, the fifth season of Overlord hasn't officially been confirmed yet.
The good news is that the production team of Overlord has already announced that a new movie titled Overlord The Movie: The Holy Kingdom is in the works, but no theatrical release date has been announced yet. The first four episodes of Overlord are now streaming on Crunchyroll. Meanwhile, The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 is currently streaming on HIDIVE.
