Overlord is an isekai anime that has consistently captivated its audience with its visually stunning animation and a compelling storyline that aptly embodies the essence of a fantasy anime. This very appeal has resulted in the production of four seasons to date. As Season 4 drew to a close, the franchise announced the imminent release of a feature film.
Back in August 2022 the Overlord anime franchise unveiled a teaser visual for its upcoming movie, Overlord: Holy Kingdom Arc. The anime made the announcement during a special program that was streamed on YouTube on August 19, 2022, but the movie was initially revealed on May 8, 2021. As you can see below, the key visual features Remedios Custodio (left) looking down and Neia Baraja (right) looking up while facing opposite directions, with the overlord Ainz Ooal Gown at the center behind them.

Based on the light novel series written by Kugane Muruyama with art by so-bin, the Overlord anime adaptations were produced by Studio Madhouse. The isekai franchise also has a short anime series titled Pie Pie Pieiades. The light novel series released its first volume on July 30, 2012.
Overlord The Movie: The Holy Kingdom Potential Release Date
The release date for Overlord The Movie: The Holy Kingdom has not yet been announced. Furthermore, no trailer has been released, indicating that the project is still in development. An official trailer hasn't been released yet, so it's likely that the film is still a work in progress. However, we anticipate that the release date is not too far off, and we speculate that it will likely be released sometime in 2024.
Fortunately, Crunchyroll has confirmed that it will Simulcast the movie, which will be a relief for fans of dubbed anime. Nevertheless, it is important to note that anime films tend to launch approximately a year later in regions outside of Japan. We will update this page once we get a specific release date for the upcoming Overlord film.
December 23, 2023 Update: It was announced that more information for the Overlord movie will be revealed on January 1, 2024, so expect to find out more information that day.

The new Overlord The Movie: Holy Kingdom film will cover The Paladin of the Sacred Kingdom arc, featured in the light novel series’ 12th and 13th volumes, so that means the plot of the film will be canon.
Yen Press licensed the light novel series for English releases, and provided the following description for Volume 12:
Overlord The Movie: The Holy Kingdom Cast & Animation Studio
The official cast members for Overlord The Movie: The Holy Kingdom haven't been announced yet, but we can expect Japanese voice actor Satoshi Hino return to play Momonga once again. Like all previous Overlord films and seasons, Studio Madhouse will be in charge of the upcoming movie's animation.
Where to watch Overlord The Movie: The Holy Kingdom
Crunchyroll's anime streaming service is unparalleled in terms of quality and its extensive collection of titles only adds to its appeal. Notably, every episode of Overlord is readily available for viewing on the platform, making it the obvious choice for streaming the upcoming Overlord The Movie: Holy Kingdom.
However, Crunchyroll hasn't confirmed whether the movie will be available to stream on the first day it's released. The movie might initially get a theatrical release before it arrives on Crunchyroll. Expect to get more updates as we approach the end of the year.
Is Overlord Season 5 still coming?
At present, Studio Madhouse is directing its attention exclusively towards the production of the movie, so it's not surprising that Overlord Season 5 hasn't been announced yet.
So far, the Overlord light novel series by Kugane Maruyama has as total of 16 volumes. Season 4 of the Overlord anime covered the events from Volumes 10, 11, and 14, and the upcoming feature film will adapt Volumes 12 and 13. This means that the studio only has two more volumes as source material to adapt for Season 5.
Each anime season usually adapts three volumes of the light novel series, so Madhouse will possibly wait for Maruyama to complete Volume 17 before starting another season.
