Following her impactful final scene in The Marvels, Iman Vellani, the actor behind Ms. Marvel, shares insights into Kamala Khan's pivotal moment and hints at the character's trajectory in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film just featured numerous cameos, with Ms. Marvel intersecting with Kate Bishop, portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld.
In The Marvels, Kamala Khan is inspired by her adventure with Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau so she decides to seek out other heroes and form her own team. This leads to an encounter with Kate Bishop, who is intrigued by the proposal.
So what was it like filming the scene that appears to be the beginnings of the Young Avengers? In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Iman Vellani discloses that she initially heard rumors about a different Young Avenger character appearing instead of Kate Bishop. However, when she learned the truth, Vellani immediately called director Nia DaCosta.
"There was a version of this in an old script, but we never shot it. And then there were rumors that we were going to get to it in additional photography, but with a different young Avenger. So I never really got the script until right before additional photography and then I flipped out," she said. "I immediately rewatched Iron Man and texted Nia in all caps. I was like, 'I cannot believe the honor that I am getting right now. This is crazy!' I did not need to rewatch that entire movie, but it didn’t hurt. So I was giddy the entire time. All of us were freaking out. It was also the last scene we shot for the movie, and it is the last scene of the movie."
We certainly can't blame Vellani for being excited and it's certainly something to look forward to in the future of the MCU. Thanks to The Marvels, it looks like the Young Avengers are off to an awesome start.
What we know so far about the Young Avengers
As The Multiverse Saga unfolds, setting the stage for the next generation of heroes and Young Avengers, various MCU projects have been laying the groundwork for this emerging team, despite no concrete plans yet for a dedicated Young Avengers film.
WandaVision already introduced Speed and Wiccan, with one of them rumored to feature in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also brought in Riri Williams, teasing her Ironheart spinoff on Disney+. Although Kid Loki was absent in Loki Season 2, his introduction in the first season leaves room for potential returns. While characters like America Chavez, Cassie Lang, and Eli Bradley haven't reappeared, the Young Avengers are evidently part of the MCU's future.
