The Marvels is finally coming this November and it could confirm a new trend for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The sequel's runtime has been revealed and it just broke an unexpected MCU record.

According to information listed on AMC Theaters, the cosmic team-up featuring Captain Marvel will have a runtime of one hour and 45 minutes, equivalent to 105 minutes. As it turns out, the initial rumors were indeed accurate: Captain Marvel 2 will be the shortest movie in the MCU, at least for now.

Sure, it's a decidedly short runtime but how does it compare to the rest of the MCU flicks? It's a lot shorter than The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World, both of which had a duration of 112 minutes. In fact, among the 31 MCU movies released, only seven have a runtime under two hours. These include Thor at 115 minutes, Doctor Strange at 115 minutes, Ant-Man at 117 minutes, Ant-Man and the Wasp at 118 minutes, and Thor: Love and Thunder at 119 minutes.

For context, the longest MCU film continues to be Avengers: Endgame with a hefty 181-minute runtime.

It's a curious revelation considering that people expect blockbusters to have longer runtimes. However, it is important to point out that a movie's length is not indicative of its quality. Exceptional films can range from concise 75-minute gems to sprawling four-hour epics and everything in between. Nonetheless, in today's era of lengthy blockbuster productions, it is notable when a film does not exceed the two-hour mark. Fans can hope for an engaging, brisk adventure in the cosmic realms of the MCU.

What could happen in The Marvels?

The Marvels will bring together Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) as they investigate a Kree wormhole. Their journey takes an intriguing twist when they discover that they swap places with each other when using their powers, a narrative thread introduced in the post-credits scene of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel.
