Ben Affleck's return as Batman in The Flash was not a huge surprise. After all, it had long been confirmed that the Gone Girl actor will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in the DC flick. However, the character showed up with a new suit that had people confused because it was so different from the previous Batsuits.

So was The Flash always supposed to give Ben Affleck a new Batsuit? Newly released concept art confirmed that the new look was a work in progress. The artworks also reveal the suits that ultimately didn't make the cut.

The images were shared by costume illustrator Robert Rowley who had worked on The Flash. In the illustrations, Ben Affleck's suit is shown to be much darker and similar to what Bruce Wayne wore in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Another Batsuit is almost identical to the one featured in Justice League. Make sure to swipe through the post to see all the concept art photos.

In The Flash, Batffleck donned a lighter-colored suit with hues of grey. It was definitely different from Batman's previous appearances in the Zack Snyder movies. Still, it was a welcome change that set his cameo in Ezra Miller's film apart from the other two movie appearances.

Ben Affleck is not the only Batman who showed up in The Flash. The movie also featured Michael Keaton's return as Bruce Wayne. Keaton previously portrayed the Caped Crusader in 1992's Batman Returns which was directed by Tim Burton.

Despite featuring two Batmen, two Flashes, and one Supergirl, The Flash still ended up being considered a box-office flop. The film, which starred Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, was already plagued by production and release delays as well as the lead star's numerous legal issues.

The Flash is still screening in theaters worldwide.
