In just a day, Netflix is about to drop the highly anticipated new Mike Flanagan series, The Fall of the House of Usher. To prepare fans for what’s to come, the streamer has dropped its first eight minutes, featuring deaths and a major confession.
Flanagan is making his own horror drama universe called Flanaverse on Netflix. In addition to 2018’s The Haunting of Hill House and 2020’s The Haunting of Bly Manor, among many other supernatural horror series from the creator himself, here comes The Fall of the House of Usher. Based on Edgar Allan Poe’s 1839 short story, fans will now meet the Usher family and learn of the sinister secret that haunts them.
The series’ first eight minutes, which can be seen on Tudum’s website, start with the funeral of three Usher kids: Frederick Usher, Victorine Lafourcade, and Tamerlane Usher. As the ceremony continues, Roderick sees a mysterious woman who’s instantly gone after his granddaughter, Lenore looks in the same direction as he did.
From there, newspaper clippings of the Usher kids’ deaths are seen, pinned up on the bulletin board while being deeply analyzed by C. Auguste Dupin, an assistant US attorney who has been trying to explore the Usher family’s crimes for over three decades. Now that all his kids are gone, and he feels nothing is left to lose, Roderick invites Dupin home to make his big confession. But aside from his offenses, he’s ready to reveal how all his children died.
