The Eminence in Shadow is one of the most popular modern isekai anime franchises in recent years, and as often the case with this genre, it started as a successful light novel series. The first season of The Eminence in Shadow began broadcasting in Japan in October 2022, and HIDIVE quickly licensed the anime series. In February 2023, a second season was announced.
Directed by Kazuya Nakanishi at studio Nexus, The Eminence in Shadow Season 1 premiered on October 5, 2022, and it consisted of 20 episodes which aired over 2 cours. The isekai anime is based on the Japanese light series of the same title (Japanese: 陰の実力者になりたくて!, Hepburn: Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) written by Daisuke Aizawa. Since 2018, Enterbrain has been serializing it in Japan with Tozai's illustrations. Kadokawa Shoten also serialized a manga adaptation by Anri Skano. Both the light novels and manga series are being published in English by Yen Press. The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 will be based on Volume 3 of the light novel.

The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Release Date
When The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 was officially renewed in February 2023, it was revealed that it will begin broadcasting in the Fall 2023 anime season, so fans already expect that it will premiere in October 2023.
Earlier this month, Kadokawa and the production team of the upcoming anime season announced that The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 will begin broadcasting on October 4, 2023.
The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Plot
The second season of The Eminence in Shadow will see Cid and the Shadow Garden pay a visit to the Lawless City, and it will adapt Volume 3 of the light novel series. You can read the synopsis here for the third volume here:
Deep within the Lawless City lies the Blood Queen, a Progenitor Vampire, slumbering in her coffin for many moons. An expert at landing himself in trouble, Cid should know better than to go after her…but he’s dying to get a piece of the action. It’s time he shed his daytime persona to take on the role of Shadow!
