Netflix has dropped a new teaser for The Blue Road, its hard-boiled Korean crime series starring Son Suk-ku and Eita Nagayama. The clip sets up a string of gruesome murders that stretch from Tokyo to Seoul. It also shows two very different detectives deciding to work the case together.
Known in Korea as Pureun-gil (푸른길), the eight-episode series comes from D.P. director Han Jun-hee. Here’s everything we know about The Blue Road so far.
Netflix Korea released the teaser on October 23, describing the show as a 2002 story about mysterious serial murders that cross national borders. The post bills it as an unpredictable global joint investigation between two detectives chasing a twisted truth. It’s the second teaser for the series, following the first trailer from early October.
The footage opens on a packed city crossing as word comes in of a murder in Shinjuku. Someone then notes that a similar killing recently took place in Korea, and that the victim’s joints were all twisted the wrong way. The body, they explain, was left on display almost like a work of art.
Next come quick flashes of a message scrawled in red on a wall, a numbered evidence marker and crime scene photos. The Japanese side seems to suspect a Korean killer, while the Korean investigators have concluded the suspect is Japanese. A brawl breaks out in a crowded discount store, and one character teases that there’s an eyewitness.
The teaser ends with the two detectives facing off in an alley, then shaking hands in the rain. Both vow to catch the culprit, and the final line makes it clear they’ll be doing it together. Title cards call The Blue Road a hard-boiled crime investigation drama from the director of D.P.
When does The Blue Road premiere on Netflix?
The Blue Road premieres globally on Netflix on Friday, November 20, 2026. Netflix Korea announced the date on October 2 with new posters and the first trailer. The series runs eight episodes.
Fans in Korea got an early look before the streaming debut. The Blue Road was invited to the On Screen section of the 31st Busan International Film Festival, which ran from October 6 to 15. Han, Son, Nagayama and Kim Shin-rok were all set to meet audiences at the festival.
Who are in The Blue Road cast?

Kim Shin-rok plays Ri Yun-ok, a charismatic Zainichi Korean businesswoman who becomes tangled up in the investigation. Choi Sung-eun and Jung Jae-young round out the main cast. Their characters haven’t been fully revealed yet.

What is The Blue Road about?
The Blue Road follows two detectives tracking a series of gruesome cross-border murders marked by twisted bodies and mysterious dying messages. The case starts in Tokyo, where a disfigured body is found with a message written in blood in Korean. Soon after, a similar murder turns up in Korea, this time with a message in Japanese.
As the killings continue, it becomes clear that one serial killer is operating in both countries. That forces the Seoul and Tokyo police into an uneasy partnership. The series is adapted from a Korean-Japanese comic of the same name.
The Blue Road Director Han Jun-hee and Writer Cho Yu-jin
Han Jun-hee directs The Blue Road from a script by Cho Yu-jin. Han is best known for Netflix’s military drama D.P., which also starred Son Suk-ku across both seasons. His film credits include Coin Locker Girl and Hit-and-Run Squad.
That history makes The Blue Road a reunion for Han and Son. This time, Han is swapping the barracks for a hard-boiled manhunt between two countries. The new teaser suggests the partnership between Kim Seok and Inose will be just as tense as the case itself.
Festival audiences in Busan have already met the two detectives. Everyone else can watch the full investigation unfold when all eight episodes of The Blue Road arrive on Netflix on November 20. Until then, the teaser’s handshake in the rain is the best sign yet that Kim Seok and Inose will eventually have to trust each other.
