After a special three-episode premiere, where Maomao becomes a poison tester to a pharmacist, she will be back to cure another patient in The Apothecary Diaries Episode 4. The anime has now released the preview stills and trailer for the new episode, and by the looks of it, there will be another threat in the palace.
The anime’s official website drops the trailer featuring Lady Lihua's maids in The Apothecary Diaries Episode 4. From how they appear, they will be giving Maomao a hard time as she sits on the floor while they’re looking at her with piercing eyes from below. The protagonist then seems to have been kicked out of the room.
The next scene features the emperor's wife, Lady Lihua, lying on the bed. There’s also a sweet scene between Maomao and Jinshi as he puts his face near her ear. The last sequences show a tired Maomao lying helpless on the couch, talking to the emperor, and looking after the queen while sitting beside her bed.
Alternatively, the preview stills see Maomao with Lady Lihua's maids, who seem to be belittling her. The next shows her with these ladies and Jinshi while they check on the queen lying on the bed. A solo preview of Jinshi making himself look cute in front of Maomao is also seen. In addition, Maomao seems to have confronted one of the maids while firmly holding her face. And as she seems to have become the palace’s official apothecary, she’s trying to cure Lady Lihua.

What to expect from The Apothecary Diaries Episode 4?
The Apothecary Diaries Episode 4 will see Maomao being summoned by the emperor to treat his wife. But when she tries to do so after preparing the food she has made to cure the queen, the latter’s maids get in the way. This makes Lady Lihua weaker than she already was. Maomao then gets a chance to talk to Princess Rika with Jinshi’s help. However, she once again sees the powder, which almost killed Princess Gyokuyo’s baby, being used mysteriously.

Maomao solved the mystery of the continuous deaths of the emperor's children, but even after that, Rika's condition remained unwell. One day, Maomao is ordered by the emperor to treat his wife. However, when he tries to feed his queen the food he prepared for her, her maids get in the way, and her queen becomes weaker and weaker. At that time, Maomao got a chance to get closer to Princess Rika with Jinshi's help, but for some reason, “powder,” which was supposed to be prohibited, was being used.
What happened in The Apothecary Diaries 3-episode premiere?
The series premiered with a three-episode special. The first episode gave a glimpse of Maomao’s life as an apothecary. However, things started to change when she was kidnapped and brought to the palace to be enslaved. But after hearing about the death of the emperor’s son, she couldn’t help but analyze the illness and give a cure.
As Jinshi found out that she had medicinal knowledge, she was promoted to be a poison tester and later became a pharmacist to help whip up the medicines they needed. She also tried to restore Lady Lihua’s health after her body started to get weak following the death of her son. In the last episode, Maomao learned the real reason behind the behavior of the beautiful dancing woman, who many thought was a ghost.
The Apothecary Diaries Episode 4 will be released on Sunday, October 29. It can also be streamed on Crunchyroll and Netflix in select regions. With just three episodes in the anime, the series has already caught the viewers’ interest with its captivating story. That said, many are now waiting to see its next episode.
