Maomao is back at the Jade Palace to look after Consort Gyokuyou, following the assumption that she may be pregnant. But aside from returning to her job as a poison tester, she’s about to meet Lihaku after the latter hears her love Pairin, one of the Three Princesses of Verdigris House, will be bought off. So, to do something about it, the preview for the upcoming The Apothecary Diaries Episode 21, titled Ranking Operation, shows Maomao asking Lihaku to get naked.

The Apothecary Diaries Episode 21 starts with Pairin holding a green-haired child. The next scene shows Maomao screaming at Lihaku, followed by Jinshi getting mad at the former with Gaoshun by his side. Later, a naked Lihaku is revealed, showing off his muscular body in its full glory.
As a gloomy Maomao appears, Jinshi continuously gets angry and reprimands someone. Pairin is seen with a man, while Lihaku looks upset after losing Maomao’s adopted sister to another guy. However, it seems like their love story hasn’t ended yet, as Lihaku rushes to see Pairin seemingly.
Alternatively, The Apothecary Diaries Episode 21 still features Maomao acting up like she’s scolding someone. It’s followed by a preview of Pairin holding what looks like a bamboo mat while at Verdigri House. Maomao once again appears at the office of the palace’s doctor. Jinshi shows off his cute face beside Gaoshun. Chibby versions of Maomao and the Quack Doctor Guen looking like a cute hamster, are also revealed. For the last still, Lihaku strikes a pose wearing only his undergarment.

What to Expect from The Apothecary Diaries Episode 21
The Apothecary Diaries Episode 21 will see Maomao continuing her work as a poison tester for Consort Gyokuyou. But while she’s about to meet Guen, Lihaku calls Maomao to ask her about Pairin after learning of the rumors that she’s about to be bought. The claims make Lihaku worried, knowing he has feelings for Pairin. But as Maomao plans to help him, he asks him to remove his clothes.

There is a possibility that Consort Yu Ye is pregnant again, and Maomao is assigned to act as a poison tester at the Jade Palace. On the way back from meeting Dr. Yabu at the medical office, Maomao was called by Li Bai and was asked if she would like to redeem Bairin from Ryokuseikan, who she had introduced to him. Hearing the rumor that one of the three princesses will be redeemed, Li Bai, who has feelings for Bai Ling, becomes anxious and worried. Then Maomao tells him to take off his clothes and get naked.
The anime is based on the light novel of the same title written by Natsu Hyuga with illustrations by Touko Shino. It has been serialized online since 2011 and was published as a novel with a single volume in 2012 and as a light novel series in 2014 after being acquired by Shufunotomo. In 2017, it was adapted into two manga published by Square Enix and Shogakukan. J-Novel Club has licensed its digital version and Square Enix its print version in English. Come October 2023, its anime adaptation premiered, produced by Toho Animation and OLM.
