The Apothecary Diaries Episode 16 Preview Shows Maomao Investigating Another Mysterious Death

After solving the mystery surrounding the death of a government official, Maomao will be up for another case in the upcoming The Apothecary Diaries Episode 16, titled Lead. The anime has released the teaser and preview stills for the next episode, showing Maomao investigating another mysterious death upon the order of Jinshi. You can see the preview below:

The Apothecary Diaries Episode 16 teaser again sees Maomao with Basen as they travel together to investigate another case. The two visit the home of the vendor, who mysteriously died, and meet the guys, who look angry when they arrive. As the investigation begins, Maomao sees a strange-looking drawer, and it seems she has found something to help her solve the case.

Alternatively, the new episode’s preview still shows Maomao with Basen holding what looks like the evidence of the case they’re investigating. She’s next seen checking the drawer’s lock that she can’t open. The two are together inside the carriage as Basen secretly looks at Maomao, who seems to be lost in her own thoughts.

Maomao looks surprised in another still as she looks at Basen while in front of the mysterious drawer. The other previews also give a glimpse of a happy-looking Lakan and Jinshi in his full, beautiful glory as he appears to be fixing his hair.

What to Expect from The Apothecary Diaries Episode 16

The Apothecary Diaries Episode 16 will reveal the will of a metal engraver, who used to be a seller to the imperial court, left. The will features a mysterious note that no one knows about, and the purveyor dies without teaching his son the secret. Hence, Jinshi asks Maomao to investigate this case and visit the dead’s house. Maomao will find a work shed, a chest of drawers, a glass fishbowl, three keepsakes, and the mysterious work shed’s layout that will help her investigation there.

'I hope everyone will have a tea party like in the old days.' - A mysterious will left by a metal engraver who was a purveyor to the imperial court and died without teaching his son the secret. Maomao, who is asked by Jinshi to investigate, visits their house. Maomako notices the work shed, the chest of drawers that won't open, the glass fishbowl, the three keepsakes left behind by each of the three brothers, and the mystery of the work shed's mysterious layout.

 

The anime is based on the light novel written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino. It has been serialized online since 2011, was acquired by Shufunotomo in the following year, and published as a novel with a single volume in 2012 and as a light novel in 2014. In 2017, it was adapted into two manga published by Square Enix and Shogakukan.

J-Novel Club licensed the light novel digitally in North America, while Square Enix licensed the light novel in print and the manga illustrated by Nekokurage. Toho Animation Studio and OLM adapted the series into an anime, premiering in October 2023 and releasing 15 episodes.
