The anime is based on the South Korean web novel of the same name by Chugong. It was first serialized in KakaoPage in July 2016 and was later published in full under D&C Media’s Papyrus label in November of the same year. Yen Press licensed the novel in English. It was then adapted into a webtoon illustrated by the Redice Studio CEO Jang Sung-rak, aka Dubu, and published in KakaoPage in March 2018. Its second season was released in August 2020 and ended in December 2021 with 179 chapters. Yen Press also licensed the webtoon in English.

Moreover, the series is also adapted into a role-playing video and is now in the works at Netmarble. Fans will also see a K-drama adaptation, which is now in development.
