After failing the court lady exam, Maomao has become an official maidservant of Jinshi. However, in the newly-released preview for The Apothecary Diaries Episode 14, titled New Lady, the poison maiden will have a new role, which is much more serious this time. By the looks of it, she will not only be serving Jinshi but the ladies as well. You can see the preview below:
The Apothecary Diaries Episode 14 trailer shows Jinshi giving Maomao two options as he holds a couple of cards before her. The scene then shifts to the two arguing again as Maomao blocks Jinshi from checking some parcels. She’s then seen with the ladies in the palace, including Princess Gyokuyou and Princess Rika, while Jinshi is eavesdropping from outside the room with Gaoshun. Later, Maomao seemingly investigates a mysterious case again and shows Lady Loulan.
Alternatively, the new episode’s preview stills feature the arrival of Lady Loulan with her court ladies. Maomao looks surprised while Jinshi and two other officials are behind her. She’s then seen inside the room in front of Princess Gyokuyou, Princess Rika, Lishu, Lady Loulan, and their respective court ladies.
In addition, Maomao is again up to something while holding a lit rope, and Lihaku looks curious behind her. In the next still, Maomao seriously eyes a white cloth that she hangs on a stick. Jinshi shows his curiosity as well as he eavesdrops on Maomao’s activity inside a room with the princesses and ladies.

What to Expect from The Apothecary Diaries Episode 14
The Apothecary Diaries Episode 14 will see the arrival of Lady Loulan in the palace. Maomao will be playing a major role in the kingdom this time, as Princess Gyokuyou and Princess Rika ask her to be a lecturer who will teach the consorts. With this new task, Maomao starts to order teaching materials and gives lectures in a private room. But after her class, when she’s about to rest at night, she hears something outside that raises her suspicions and arouses her curiosity.

It was decided that the senior consorts, including Consort Loulan, who had newly entered the inner palace, would be given consort education. Neomako, who failed the official maiden exam and became a maidservant in Jinshi's room, is asked by Princess Gyokuyou and Princess Rika to be a lecturer. Maomako orders teaching materials from Ryokuseikan and teaches secret techniques in the bedroom. That night, when Maomako is resting after her class, she hears a suspicious sound outside her, which arouses her curiosity...
The anime is based on the Japanese light novel of the same name written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino. It has been serialized online on Shosetsuka ni Naro since 2011. After a year, it was acquired by Shufunotomo and published as a novel with a single volume in 2012 and as a light novel in 2014. In 2017, it was adapted into two manga published by Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan and Shogakukan’s Monthly Sunday Gene-X.
The light novel is published in English digitally by J-Novel Club and in print by Square Enix. The latter also licensed its manga illustrated by Nekokurage in North America. Toho Animation and OLM then adapted the series into anime, premiering in October 2023 and releasing 13 episodes.
