The Apothecary Diaries Episode 13 Preview Shows Maomao Back in the Palace

After being fired from the palace due to Fengming’s supposed crimes, Maomao is about to make her way back, thanks to Jinshi. However, she will no longer work for Gyokuyou and will have a new boss this time. To give fans a glimpse of what’s about to happen next, the anime has released new preview stills and a teaser for the upcoming The Apothecary Diaries Episode 13, titled Serving in the Outer Court, showing Maomao returning to the palace.

The Apothecary Diaries Episode 13 teaser shows Maomao preparing for her work at the Verdigris House, as she’s later seen with two of the famous Three Princesses. The next scene features Jinshi’s nanny, Suiren. Maomao and Jinshi are together inside a carriage, with the former all dolled up.

Later, Maomao is back in the palace, wearing her usual green clothing as a court lady. However, someone watches her every move when Lakan, Maomao’s biological father, appears.

Alternatively, one of The Apothecary Diaries Episode 13 preview stills shows a stunning Maomao while the Three Princesses and Madam are behind her. The next one shows her with Jinshi inside the carriage as the two seem to be in a serious discussion.

And now that she’s back in the palace, Maomao is once again being yelled at by a court lady. The Mad Scientist then joins Lurien, and she looks cold while the latter is busy fixing the kitchen. The preview also features Suirei, the series’ antagonist and a former court lady, eyeing Maomao badly. For the last still, Lakan appears to be hiding behind a pillar as he seems to be watching his daughter.

What to Expect from The Apothecary Diaries Episode 13

The Apothecary Diaries Episode 13 will reveal how Jinshi will help Maomao to return to the palace. Though the Three Princesses and Madam hate to see her go, Maomao follows her heart. However, she won’t work in the inner palace anymore but in Jinshi’s house in the outer court. As Maomao feels awkward with her new work, Jinshi asks her to take an exam to become a court lady.

Although Maomako was fired from the inner palace, she was redeemed by Jinji and returned to the palace. Until the time he leaves Ryokuseikan, he is loved by Meibai and the three princesses, but now he goes to the court of his own accord. However, his new workplace was not the familiar inner palace but Jinshi's house in the outer court. Maomao is confused by the different treatment from before, but Jinji tells her to take an exam to become a court lady.

The anime is based on the light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino. It has been serialized online since 2011 and was acquired by Shufunotomo, which published it as a novel with only one volume in 2012 and as a light novel in 2014. It was then adapted into two manga series in 2017, published by Square Enix and Shogakukan.

J-Novel Club licensed the light novel digitally in North America, while Square Enix licensed it in print. Square Enix also licensed the Nekokurage-illustrated manga. Its anime adaptation was produced by Toho Animation Studio and OLM, premiering in October 2023, and now has 12 episodes.
