The official team behind The Apothecary Diaries anime has announced a special live program set to air on May 16, 2025, offering an exclusive look into the series. This event promises to bring fans closer to the world of Maomao and her intricate adventures in the imperial court, with surprises and insights expected from the cast and crew. This broadcast of the show is an unexpected break, delaying the release of Episode 43 by one week, so that means Season 2 Cour 2 is set to resume on May 23.

The hiatus isn't caused by production problems or delays but is instead to accommodate a festive special episode. Set to air on the usual broadcast night, the event will include a talk show with the Japanese voice actors for Jinshi (Takeo Otsuka), Gaoshun (Katsuyuki Konishi), and Basen (Tatsumaru Tachibana). Named Kusuriya’s First Boys’ Night Out, the special will highlight a fun, relaxed side of the series’ cast and characters.

What is The Apothecary Diaries about?

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) anime is based on the mystery romance light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Toko Shino. Since 2011, the drama series has been serialized on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website before it was acquired by Shufunotomo, who initially published it as a novel with a single volume in 2012 and then as a light novel series in 2014.

The series also received a couple of manga adaptations in 2017: one published by Shogakukan in Monthly Sunday Gene-X, and the other published by Square Enix in Monthly Big Gangan. J-Novel Club licensed the light novel series digitally in North America, and Square Enix licensed it in print. Square Enix also licensed the manga illustrated by Nekokurage.

Crunchyroll's description of The Apothecary Diaries reads:
