Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen will officially be back in the small town of Serenity, South Carolina, after Netflix has formally announced Sweet Magnolias Season 4. The much-awaited season renewal news comes three months after the third season's release. That said, fans will finally see what’s next for these three lifelong best friends.
Based on Sherryl Woods’ novels of the same name, the show will continuously be part of the streamer’s comforting drama series, along with Virgin River and Ginny & Georgia, among others. The third season ended on a high note, with Dana Sue and Ronni renewing their vows, Helen reuniting with Erik, and Maddie being happy with Cal. Though many fear it may be the last time fans will see the three, their life stories are about to continue in Sweet Magnolias Season 4.
The renewal doesn’t come as a surprise, considering its last three seasons have ranked in Netflix’s Global Top 10 list for 10 weeks in over 60 countries. Not only that, but the third season also debuted at No. 1. However, the announcement is still considered a delay, with Deadline claiming it was “due to logistics” and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

What may happen in Sweet Magnolias Season 4?
JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who plays Maddie, told Tudum in June that Sweet Magnolias Season 4 has several grounds to cover. Despite the third season wrapping the besties’ storylines nicely, it was the first time a major conflict happened between the three. Hence, Swisher claimed that there are still a lot of stories waiting to be told.
“Even though this season ended with a nice button, it almost feels like it was a necessary button to really dig in deep for the future,” she said.
Executive producer Sheryl J. Anderson added that the fourth season would explore the conflicts seen in the previous season finale, from their romances to the complexity of their friendship and other surprises that would pop up. The new season will try to show how these things make people grateful for the loved ones they have in their lives.
Of course, Magnolias Season 4 will see the return of Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley to reprise their roles as Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen, respectively. Anderson will also comeback as the series’ showrunner, along with Dan Paulson as the executive producer and Norman Buckley and Matt Drake as co-executive producers.
So far, there are no words yet on when Magnolias Season 4 will be released. But fans are probably willing to wait to see Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue back on the small screen.
