Nathan Fillion is joining the DCU as a new superhero. The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star has been cast as a Green Lantern in James Gunn's Superman Legacy. This will be Fillion's second DC role after playing T.D.K in The Suicide Squad.

Superman Legacy has already found its Clark Kent and Lois Lane. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have been cast in the film and James Gunn promised that there will be more major comic book characters joining the movie shortly.

As it turns out, the wait for the casting news didn't take long. Vanity Fair confirms that Superman Legacy has added three new actors including Gunn's frequent collaborator Nathan Fillion. The Firefly star will portray Guy Gardner while Dora and The Lost City of Gold actor Isabela Merced will play Hawkgirl. Moreover, Twilight's Edi Gathegi will be Mister Terrific in the movie.

Fillion's casting is an interesting one considering that DC had already cast Guy Gardner for another project. Back in 2021, it was announced that HBO Max would produce a Green Lanterns series with American Horror Story actor Finn Wittrock as Guy. However, the planned show had been reworked into a different project.

Additionally, Guy Gardner is not the first Green Lantern that Nathan Fillion played. He is known for providing the voice of Hal Jordan in animated films like Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Justice League: Doom, and Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. Needless to say, it was only a matter of time before he would be cast as Guy Gardner.

Superman: Legacy will be directed by James Gunn while Pete Safran will write the screenplay. The movie will follow Clark Kent as he tries to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human family. It is currently scheduled to begin production in January 2024 and is set for theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
