If there's one thing that people remember about Suicide Squad, it would be the unforgettable version of the Joker played by Jared Leto. In the film, the Clown Prince of Crime was outrageous, wild, and covered in questionable tattoos. Now, after seven years since the movie's theatrical release, director David Ayer has expressed a particular regret concerning its portrayal of the Joker.

The 2016 film Suicide Squad introduced audiences to a remarkably distinctive interpretation of the Joker, portrayed by Jared Leto, which was met with mixed reception. However, this might be in part because a significant portion of his storyline involving Harley Quinn failed to make it into the final version of the movie. Not surprisingly, a lot of Ayer's plans for the film didn't make it to the final cut and left many fans in the dark regarding the intended trajectory for this iconic Batman villain.

Still, there's one thing about the Joker that did make it to the film. Unfortunately, it's a major detail that Ayer now regrets. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to retweet a fan's comment, the Bright filmmaker shared his thoughts about the character's iconic forehead tattoo.

"I own the tattoo idea 100% It was my choice," Ayer wrote. "Original idea is it would say 'Blessed' and not 'Damaged.' Now having said that — I regret that decision. It created acrimony and division. Not every idea is a good idea. And I’ll just be in the corner here while the internet slaps me around for this post."

It certainly wasn't the best idea but it did lead to numerous fan discussions about how the film made a distinct iteration of the Joker. Still, there's one thing that people would agree on: Jared Leto was memorable as the Clown Prince of Crime, whether that's a good thing or not.
