We rarely get to see how fast time flies but it is evident in Stranger Things. After all, the series started out with a group of little kids who have since grown into teenagers through the years. However, puberty isn't the only thing affecting the young cast and executive producer Shawn Levy addressed how this will be fixed in Stranger Things Season 5.
Stranger Things was first released in 2016 and quickly became a huge hit for Netflix. Not surprisingly, the success led to multiple seasons that allowed viewers to watch the young characters grow with the series. Unfortunately, it looks like the actors behind the Hawkins kids are growing too fast as a result of repeated delays in production.
So how is Stranger Things Season 5 going to deal with a cast of middle-schoolers being played by older teenagers? Executive producer Shawn Levy pointed out that the cast's growth is unavoidable but the series is trying to deal with it the best they can.
"We’ve already watched the cast of our show grow up in the public eye, and between 12 and 22, every human being changes profoundly. This passage of time is definitely not helping," he told Variety. "That being said, our hair and makeup and wardrobe department are pretty exceptional, using costumes and wigs and makeup. The ’80s are also our friends in returning these young adult actors to their iconic Hawkins characters. So we’re going to use all the tools available to us. And I know our cast is as eager to get back to work as the rest of us."
We certainly sympathize with Levy on this one. Although the cast and crew had been eager to begin work on Stranger Things Season 5 as soon as possible, production was held back by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes earlier this year. With that in mind, let's hope that the final season can resume filming before the young cast reaches their 20s.
Can Stranger Things Season 5 resume production in 2023?
Although everyone remains hopeful that the actors' strike will reach an agreement before the end of the year, a settlement has yet to be made. Unfortunately, this puts the future of the entertainment industry at a standstill, at least for now. Nevertheless, the latest report confirms that negotiations are ongoing and there is hope that an announcement will be made in the next few weeks.
For now, Stranger Things Season 5 has not yet resumed production and the official release date has not been announced. Still, producers are aiming to release the final season on Netflix by 2024. Make sure to check this page for more updates on this story.
