A Kentucky woman thought she hit the big time when she met Stranger Things actor Dacre Montgomery online and immediately began a relationship with him. The only problem is, the person she is talking to isn't the real actor and they managed to scam the woman of up to $10,000 over the course of their relationship.
Dacre Montgomery is best known for playing Billy Hargrove in Stranger Things and although the character was mostly antagonistic to the kids of Hawkins, he still gained new fans who were attracted to the character's dangerous charisma. So it's no surprise that one woman immediately fell for "Montgomery" when she met "him" in an online forum.
McKayla is a single mother from Kentucky who met someone pretending to be Dacre Montgomery online. In an episode of Catfished!, she shared how she met a person who claimed to be the Stranger Things actor and began an online relationship with him. Soon, the scammer was asking McKayla for money which she provided through gift cards, crypto, and cash through payment. Overall, she spent over $10,000 on the pretender.
Money isn't the only thing that McKayla put at stake as she continued her online relationship with the scammer. She also decided to leave her husband, claiming that their relationship was toxic.
The real Montgomery is currently in a relationship with model Liv Pollock but this didn't seem to bother McKayla. After all, the scammer told her that Pollock controlled his finances which led to them asking McKayla for money. Unfortunately, she fell for all the lies, left her husband, and realized that she was being tricked only when it was too late.
Will Billy Return in Stranger Things Season 6?
Billy Hargrove already died in Stranger Things but the character still managed to return in the fifth season. This led to speculations that Montgomery will reprise the role in the show's final season. However, it has not yet been revealed whether Billy will be featured in Season 6.
