Star Wars: The Acolyte is now gaining traction ahead of its release. The series is now receiving mixed reactions, with the franchise’s fans and haters taking to social media to express their views about this new Star Wars project. Though it remains to be seen how it will pan out, The Acolyte Season 2 is reportedly in the works.
In an interview with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar), the show’s producer, Rayne Roberts, hinted that there are plans for The Acolyte Season 2. He revealed there are “some things the show points to,” and they already know what they want to do. However, they have no idea yet how it will end.
“We've got to get back into the writers' room for season 2 to see where we're at,” he said. “We have some initial thoughts about what we want to do, but in terms of where the story will ultimately wrap up, that hasn't been quite nailed down yet.”
The Acolyte won’t premiere on Disney+ until about three weeks. And though its reception is yet to be seen, it looks like both Disney and Lucasfilm are confident about this project having a second season developed this early. However, it remains to be seen if this will happen, as the studios have yet to confirm anything.
Star Wars: The Acolyte ending will leave the door open for other stories
Meanwhile, in the same interview, another Star Wars producer, Simon Emanuel, teased that The Acolyte would have a satisfying ending but would leave the door open for other stories. In fact, show creator Leslye Headland has many ideas on where the story could go. So, if it is deemed successful, a second season is not far from happening.
“We want to make sure this season has an ending—some catharsis—but you always want to leave the door open,” he explained. “We've talked about where the story could go, and Leslye has so many ideas—and like anything, if something's successful, you can bet you'll find other stories within it.”
Fans who haven’t followed the franchise don’t have to worry. Emanuel ensured anyone could easily understand the series, even if they knew nothing about Star Wars. Though it’s set during the High Republic Era, a hundred years before the prequel trilogy begins, they don’t need to learn the details from the Extended Universe to watch it.
“It's a gateway, and you don't need to know anything about Star Wars to be able to drop in,” Emanuel said.

Roberts added that it was the fun part of doing the show. Compared to other Star Wars projects, in which stories are connected, he revealed that they’re not “backing into anything” that has been “pre-decided.” Well, it’s the furthest back in time a live-action series or movie has ever gone on screen. So, it's set to introduce new characters and stories, which Headland and the rest of the staff create.
“They're new characters; all of their fates were up to Leslye [Headland, showrunner] and the writing room, so it's going to be really fun, I hope, to see where they go,” Roberts said.
These new revelations about the upcoming series make it more intriguing. With the stories that it’s about to tell, not to mention numerous new characters, it may feature a stunning exploration of the High Republic Era that may open the door for a lot of possibilities.
The Acolyte’s two-episode premiere is set to release on June 4, 2024, on Disney+.
