Star Wars: The Acolyte may have been set over a hundred years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, but it has already shown some connections to the greater canon. Episode 3, Destiny, delves into the backstory of the twin sisters Osha and Mae, offering fans a glimpse into their lives before the fear of separation eventually drove them apart. However, aside from that, it also reveals Mae and Osha’s uncanny similarities to Anakin Skywalker.

The Acolyte Episode 3 focuses on the young Mae and Osha as they live with the coven of witches. The two are preparing for the ascension ceremony on Brendok to be officially inducted into Mother Aniseya’s coven. However, Osha has second thoughts about being a witch, and things turn out worse when the Jedi Knights arrive.
As Osha shows interest in joining the Jedi, Mother Koril and Aniseya discuss the path the twins should take. While Koril stresses she carried the twins, Aniseya reveals she created them. This revelation implies that Osha and Mae are brought to life through otherworldly forces, far from the natural method of conceiving a child. Add that to Aniseya telling Jedi Master Indara that the kids have no father; it shows that Osha and Mae are just like Anakin.
How was Anakin Skywalker born in Star Wars?
Anakin was born to Shmi Skywalker in 41.9 BBY. Marvel Comics Star Wars #25 gives more details as to how one of the most powerful Jedi ever was conceived when Darth Vader uses the powers of his fortress on Mustafar to travel back in time. The issue shows some pivotal moments in his life, including General Palpatine meeting Shmi and manipulating mid-chlorians, the symbiotic organisms that let individuals touch the Force to impregnate her.
So, as Osha and Mae have no father like Anakin and they’re both created using the Force, they seem to have the same origins. However, it’s good to note that Anakin’s conception is considered more miraculous, knowing he’s the Chosen One, compared to Osha and Mae being created by Aniseya using her powers.
This big reveal opens many possibilities for the franchise, especially the mystery surrounding Mae and Osha's real identities. The Acolyte has been showing major connections to the overall Star Wars canon, and more may be revealed as the show continues.
The Acolyte Episodes 1 to 3 are available on Disney+, and new episodes are set to release every Tuesday.
