Over the span of more than four decades, Star Wars has expanded its franchise from movies to Disney+ series to toys, and even in games. Lucasfilm Games, formerly LucasArts, brought forth a lot of Star Wars themed games for the avid fans of the galaxy far, far away who would want to, figuratively, step into the shoes of those in the Star Wars universe and somehow, play a role in the bigger narrative of the franchise. One of the most awaited games coming up next year is Star Wars: Outlaws and the story director of the game happily shares exciting details about what the narrative of the game would be.

Star Wars: Outlaws is, indeed, a highly anticipated game coming out next year and following its cinematic trailer released in June 2023 during the Xbox Games Showcase, the hype on the game continues even before its release. At the Ubisoft Forward showcase, a ten-minute gameplay footage was released and with these clips, the game's story is definitely one to look out for once the game arrives. Speaking with Kotaku, Star Wars: Outlaws narrative director, Navid Khavari, revealed what the game has to offer in terms of its story:

The first of these is dense cities bustling with activity and lively cantinas where you might find criminal syndicates and corrupt Imperials mingling together. Second is our vast, mysterious, and stunning open environments … whether on foot or Kay’s speeder. And finally, space, which players can explore on Kay’s ship. One of the core parts of the scoundrel fantasy is having your own ship and that essentially being your home. Outlaws are traveling constantly and need to be on the move all the time— that’s no different for Kay. You’ll be able to go from on foot, to speeder, to your ship and easily jump between planets.

Khavari explained the core gameplay loop of Star Wars: Outlaws which will have three different types of game experiences that the players could have when exploring the game. Khavari also highlighted the scoundrel fantasy which will, somehow, make the players feel like an "intergalactic tourist." Khavari even added how Kay Vess, the main character of the game, would have a reputation that the players could manage, saying:

Players can use quests with each of the syndicates to manage Kay’s reputation, which will impact the jobs they offer and the impact they’ll have on throughout the story. Each player will have a different profile with each of the syndicates based on how they’ve interacted with them over the course of her journey.

What is Star Wars: Outlaws all about?

Star Wars: Outlaws is an upcoming single-player, third person action-adventure game developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft under the Lucasfilm Games license. Announced in Januart 2021, it is a highly anticipated game set in an open world which would allow players to interact with each other while in the game. The story of the game will center on the outlaw scoundrel, Kay Vess, with her friend, Nix, in her heist attempt and her journey through various planets.

Star Wars: Outlaws will feature familiar places from the Star Wars lore like Tatooine, Akiva, and Kijimi, and new ones like the moon of Toshara. The game will be set between what happened in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
