Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled to arrive sometime this year, but Ubisoft has been keeping silent regarding the actual release date. The game has had to face a tough time since the start, as it was delayed a couple of times after its announcement. Since the game isn't out yet, fans are wondering if it'll get delayed once again.
However, so far, it looks like players can expect to play the game “late this year,” as per a blog post shared on the official Disney Parks Blog. The upcoming Star Wars game was present in a list of "24 Oooh-Worthy Things at Disney Experiences in 2024." The post read:
Outlaws wasn’t the only Star Wars media on the list since Disney also claimed that a few changes would be made to the Star Tours attraction in Hollywood Studios, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland. In October, a Ubisoft report about the first half of the fiscal year suggested that a huge game would get delayed to the next fiscal year. Initially, the unnamed game was set to launch by the end of this fiscal year, which comes to an end on March 31, 2024.
However, Ubisoft decided “to maximize its value creation” by pushing back the secret game. This report resulted in many rumors claiming that Star Wars Outlaws was pushed back, with this Disney Parks post seeming only to confirm this speculation. This is quite upsetting for Star Wars fans who were eagerly waiting to play Outlaws, but one can only hope that the delay will bring a much finer look prior to its launch.
What is Star Wars Outlaws about?
Star Wars Outlaws is set in the time between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It’s a single-player third-person action-adventure game in which players can assume the role of a brand-new character named Kay Vess. Vess and her allies are planning “one of the biggest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen," which looks like an interesting set-up for a Star Wars game.
Considering the time period the game is set in, players might see familiar faces from the original trilogy, like Jabba the Hut. Moreover, players will also get to take jobs from the popular gangster. Ubisoft has promised that players can visit several planets in the game. During an interview with Edge Magazine last year, creative director Julian Gerighty said that the planets featured in the game won’t be procedurally generated but will all be "handcrafted." Gerighty also stated that the planets are going to be massive, claiming that all of them will be nearly the size of "two to three zones" from Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled to release in late 2024 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
