Star Wars Outlaws was finally released on August 30 for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. Though critics generally praised the game, which received a 76 Metascore on Metacritic, users’ experience was another question. After purchasing the game, players encountered several issues, primarily related to the save system, infrequency of auto-saves, and overall performance problems.
Players have taken to social media to share their frustrations with Star Wars Outlaws. While many have praised the game for its great graphics, some can’t help but notice the annoying restrictions when manually saving and the lack of auto-saves. In some cases, the game doesn’t save even after about 30 minutes of play, causing players to lose progress and return to the start when they die.
X user @MaximsTweets called the game “basically mid” despite the hype surrounding it before its release. The player found some things were still “unpolished” and felt “cheap,” including its “horrible” checkpoint system.
User @TransFemCC thought they had fixed the issue by restarting the console’s internet connection. However, it was ultimately soft-locked when they tried to load up a save game, making them stuck on a black screen for 10 minutes.
User @SWGarrison couldn’t help but get annoyed after losing their progress and needing to start a new game when opening Star Wars Outlaws. It took them three times to open the game before their progress returned.
In addition to the save system issue, user @AlldCaptain complained about the game being “super janky and baggy.” They found the game so bad they couldn’t even believe it.
Lastly, user @YFNSpider revealed that the lack of checkpoints or quick saves in Star Wars Outlaws was a brutal design failure. After spending 20 minutes sneaking through a forward base, they ended up loading their last autosave, far away from their current game status, after getting glitched into an object.
Star Wars Outlaws’ Launce Sales Reportedly Lower Than Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in the UK
After its launch last week, Star Wars Outlaws’ sales are reportedly 55% lower than Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in the UK. Games Industry’s head Christopher Dring claimed in a tweet that the game had a weak start at UK retail, though it was still 15% bigger than Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment’s last game, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
So far, Ubisoft has not released its sales figures yet, while Dring noted that they don’t have digital data, too. He later clarified that some data might be missing from the physical sales numbers. Therefore, he asked everyone to wait until the end of the week to see how the game performs when the digital statistics start coming in.
Though the reviews for Star Wars Outlaws are now in, it may be too early to measure the game’s sales performance. It has only been four days since its release, and several factors remain to consider, such as the number of players accessing it through Ubisoft+. As for the save system issue, Ubisoft may soon respond to players' concerns and address it.
