Star Wars Eclipse was revealed nearly two years ago, and so far, not much has been seen or heard from Quantic Dream regarding the game. However, the developers did reveal that, similar to the previous adventures, the storyline of Star Wars Eclipse will continue regardless of which characters die. This feature hasn’t been seen in any of the previous Star Wars games to date.
IGN recently interviewed the vice president of marketing for Quantic Dream, Lisa Pendse, at the Tokyo Game Show. During the interview, she said that even though the studio wants fans to know more about the upcoming action-adventure video game, it’s still going to have “all of the elements that you would come to expect and want from a Quantic Dream title.”
This includes some “intricately branching narratives” as well as the ability to play multiple different characters. One more major element of Star Wars Eclipse is that regardless of how badly players mess up or which characters end up dying, the game’s storyline will keep going. Pendse stated, “There’s no game over. Anyone can die, anything can happen, and the story sort of continues so that those signatures are still there.”
The development of Star Wars Eclipse was confirmed back in September 2021, before its official reveal took place at The Game Award that December. Eclipse is set in the High Republic era of Star Wars, which is a time that occurs hundreds of years before Anakin Skywalker and Han Solo. This is a golden age for the Jedi as well as the republic it defends, and a pretty different time as compared to the period that’s usually covered in the movies and TV shows.
Moreover, unlike previous Quantic Dream video games – which were narrative-driven and QTE-filled adventures – Star Wars Eclipse is going to be an action game. The studio also confirmed that the DNA of its more contemplative back catalog will stay evident in Eclipse as well. What’s exciting is that such freedom is never really seen in Star Wars video games.
Quantic Dream was popular back in 2018 as the studio was involved in a couple of reports accusing them of being an awful place to work. The report also consisted of the studio using sexist and racist jokes, but these reports were immediately denied by the developers. They also later sued the publications that reported the accusations and a bunch of former employees in court battles.
Star Wars Eclipse is currently under development.
