The recent leak of Microsoft's internal documents gives us an indication regarding the company’s intentions of getting more games on Xbox Game Pass, including Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. According to the leak, Microsoft has estimated that it would take around $300m to get Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on Game Pass or $250m for either Suicide Squad or Mortal Kombat 1.
In an email thread initiated by Phil Spencer last year, Microsoft scrambled to fill the hole in the Game Pass that was left by Starfield's delay and also consisted of a long list of potential third-party video games. All of the games were listed beside their likelihood of being accepted for the Xbox Game Pass, their wow factors, and an “expected partner ask” in USD.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was given a “low” rating when it came to its likelihood of being accepted but has a “very high” for its wow factor. On the other hand, Mortal Kombat 1 scored a “very low” likelihood rating but a “med-high” wow factor. Some other games include Assassin’s Creed ($110m), Dying Light 2 ($50m), and Gotham Knights ($50m). Furthermore, Microsoft hasn’t ever revealed the figures it pays to gaming studios in order to include games on Xbox Game Pass, so this leak is a massive indication.
Once you go much lower on the list, you see Ubisoft’s Just Dance, Return to Monkey Island, and Baldur’s Gate 3, all currently standing at $5m. Take-Two Interactive’s Red Dead Redemption 2 as well as Grand Theft Auto 5 are listed with their costs per month, i.e., $5m per month and $12-15m per month, respectively. This suggests that several video games are also offered a flat fee, whereas others are time-limited.
In the email thread, Phil Spencer continued to suggest the Dark Souls games might be good candidates for Xbox Game Pass. The costs of the games being added to Game Pass were one of the major stories to come up from the leaked document, including information regarding Microsoft’s plans to acquire Nintendo and Warner Bros.
