Lando Calrissian is coming back, baby! The planned Solo: A Star Wars Story spin-off series focusing on the man with the fabulous cape collection is moving forward despite Justin Simien's surprise departure. This time, Donald Glover himself will pen the screenplay for the highly anticipated Star Wars show.
Justin Simien had previously spoken about the Lando Calrissian series, claiming that he hasn't received any updates about the project since he was attached to it during Disney Investor Day. Although this implied that the Haunted Mansion director is still part of the show, a new report from Above the Line reveals he had left the project last summer.
Although this sounds like bad news, there is an awesome update to the project. The outlet confirms that Lucasfilm has tapped Donald Glover to write the screenplay for the show and he will be sharing writing duties with his brother Stephen Glover.

We're loving the idea of Donald and Stephen Glover taking over the Lando series. After all, the brothers have already done an excellent job on Atlanta and there is little doubt that they will make magic again with the Star Wars show.
Interestingly, the Glovers' new role in Lando was confirmed a long time ago, even before the WGA writers' strike. However, it is possible that Disney and Lucasfilm are choosing not to make an announcement until after a script is delivered. Hopefully, we'll get a new update in the next few weeks. The Lando Calrissian series was first announced during Disney's Investor Day in 2020. It was confirmed that Justin Simien will be writing the script while Donald Glover will reprise his role as Han Solo's old friend. However, the project was not immediately given a production start date or an official release date.
