Dave Filoni revealed his true feelings about The Mandalorian's breakout star. The Ahsoka creator has just admitted he thought Baby Yoda is "not a good idea" when Jon Favreau pitched the adorable sidekick for the Star Wars series.

We know him as Grogu now, but there was a time when The Child didn't have a name and was lovingly called "Baby Yoda" by fans who were blown away by the premiere episode of The Mandalorian. It didn't take long for the tiny creature to become an internet sensation but co-executive producer Dave Filoni was originally against the plan to introduce the character in the show.

"You know, like in Season 1, Jon wants to make a Baby Yoda. I'm like, 'What? Why? Why would we do this? That sounds like not a good idea,'" Filoni said in the new behind-the-scenes documentary Disney Gallery – Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 3 (via Comicbook.com).

The pushback is understandable considering that Grogu would be connected to Yoda (albeit only in species), a character who was first introduced by George Lucas himself. But despite his doubts, Filoni reconsidered his initial reaction and decided to trust Favreau.

"But, you put that initial fear aside and you say, 'Okay, well, let's really examine this.' And I was like, 'Jon, if you're gonna do this, I'm gonna be there with you. 'Cause I know Yoda's one of George's favorite characters and we cannot mess this up,'" he said.

It's a good thing that Filoni reconsidered and ultimately agreed to go with Baby Yoda. The character has gone on to become the heart of The Mandalorian and an important part of the Star Wars Universe. Grogu also offered a glimpse at what happened during Order 66 and how some of the Jedi managed to survive.

But when will we see Grogu again? The fourth season of The Mandalorian is still in development and has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
