All eyes are now on Daisy Ridley as she’s set to return to the galaxy far, far away several years after the 2019 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. However, compared to the first time fans saw the English actress in the sequel trilogy, she will now be a full-fledged adult leading a new generation of Jedi, which she reveals is a “weird feeling.”

In an interview with Total Film (via Games Radar), Ridley talked about her new Star Wars project, which Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will helm. Though she had admitted to doubting whether she could still remember what she did in playing the role of Rey for the first time, she found it strange that doing the franchise again would feel “so different” with a new team.

“I’m in a very different place than I was,” she said. “I’m probably going to be one of the adults, and initially, I was the youngest person on set, which is a weird feeling.”

Ridley started her career by playing minor roles on TV. Though she already had several films to her name before being announced as one of the leads for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2014, she was dubbed a “total unknown.” The star was only 22 then, and her appearance in the franchise helped her rise to prominence.

Daisy Ridley Reveals Hopes for Doing New Star Wars Movie

Ridley initially played the role of Rey from 2015 to 2019. After The Rise of Skywalker, she has been doing other movie projects, like Murder on the Orient Express and the latest, Young Woman and the Sea. Now that she’s about to return to the epic space opera franchise, she hopes she will get to work with the same crew as the sequel trilogy.

“Obviously, many people shifted, but many people stayed the same through all three films, and there was something wonderful and comforting about that,” she said.

However, it looks like the film’s production has yet to begin, as the 32-year-old still has no idea whom she’s about to work with. She claimed everything has remained to be seen, though she’s hopeful that doing this new project will still “feel natural in some way.”

“But also like – I don’t know – like it’s a new adventure,” she continued. “I’m hoping it’s sort of a bit of both.”

What is Daisy Ridley’s new Star Wars movie about?

Details about Ridley’s new Star Wars movie remain under lock and key. However, there are claims that it would be set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Rey will establish a new Jedi Order to fulfill her role in her previous Star Wars movies. In an interview with IGN after announcing the new Ridley movie, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed that after the sequel trilogy finale film, the Jedi were “post-war, post-First Order,” and in disarray.

“There’s a lot of discussion around, ‘Who are the Jedi? What are they doing? What’s the state of the galaxy?’” she said. “She (Rey) is attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, based on the books, based on what she promised Luke, so that’s where we’re going.”

The Jedi Order is an uncharted territory in the Star Wars canon, but it’s well connected to the de-canonized Expanded Universe books. Published between 1999 and 2002, these books follow Luke Skywalker’s new Jedi Order and the New Republic, fighting off a race of nomadic aliens called Yuuzhan Vong as they aim to conquer the galaxy. However, it remains to be seen if the film will adapt this story or feature an original tale.

So far, there are no official words on when Ridley’s new Star Wars movie will be released. However, there are rumors that it may be the second film from the franchise that will come out after Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu’s May 22, 2026 release date.

If the claims are true, Rey’s story may be seen on the big screen on December 18, 2026. Whatever the case is, and despite fans’ mixed reactions, many still look forward to seeing Ridley’s return as Rey.
