Daisy Ridley may not have started her career headlining Star WarsSkywalker Saga, but the franchise has helped the actress rise to prominence. She spent much time doing the sequel trilogy, starting with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. So, when the time came that she had to say goodbye to the movie series after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker wrapped filming, the English actress recalled the emotional but embarrassing wrap speech she gave to the cast and staff.

Four years after The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars announced Ridley’s return to the galaxy far, far away to reprise her role as Rey Skywalker. While talking about this new film with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, she spoke about the speech that left her embarrassed.

“I mean, someone recorded it, just so embarrassing,” she said.

The 31-year-old star then started fake sobbing, reliving the moment she gave her speech, saying she “had the most amazing time” then. At the time, she even told the film’s director, J.J. Abrams, not to give her the microphone because she was already “crazy crying” and no one could hear anything she said.

“But oh God, it was so emotional,” she continued.

What is Daisy Ridley’s new Star Wars film about?

In April 2023, Star Wars announced a new film that would see the return of Ridley as Rey, helmed by the filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Though Lucasfilm has yet to reveal the movie’s official synopsis, it’s reportedly set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. It will feature Rey as a Jedi Master teaching a new generation of Jedis to build a new Jedi Order. By the looks of it, she will finally fulfill her destiny, which the sequel trilogy teased.

In an interview with CNN, Obaid-Chinoy revealed that she’s already excited about the project and feels they’re about to create “something very special.” As she will serve as the franchise’s first female director, she continued that it’s about time to have a woman “come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”

Alternatively, Ridley told Collider that she knew the film's story and teased that people would be “very excited” about it. She also revealed to Variety that Obaid-Chinoy’s idea for the story is “cool” after giving her a rundown. Ridley added that she should have refused to do it if it weren't amazing and called it “worthwhile.”
