The first season of Star Wars: Andor ended with Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) uniting after the former asked the revolutionary leader to join the Rebel Alliance following the uprising on Ferrix. As the show prepares for its second and final season, it’s now leading into the events of the 2016 movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. That said, Luna teases there will be more Rogue One cameos in Andor Season 2, which is about to change the perspective of Gareth Edwards’ film.

Speaking at ACE Superhero ComicCon 2024 (via Popverse), Luna revealed that fans are about to see more familiar faces from Rogue One in Andor Season 2 as the show transitions into the movie’s story. Not only that, but he also made fans more excited by hinting that the upcoming season would be “very special,” giving a different point of view of the film that they might want to watch again.

“I can tell you, Rogue One is coming, so there will be characters there that you will recognize. There will be cool stuff,” he teased. “For those who love Rogue One, this season is going to be very special. And it’s going to be fascinating to go straight to Rogue One after watching this second season, because you will see Rogue One from a different perspective. I promise you that.”

Though the actor couldn’t give anything away, he revealed the world would turn upside down and praised series creator Tony Gilroy for being a “fantastic writer.” After introducing amazing new characters in the first season, Luna teased the second outing would be “very rich” by telling stories that matter today.

“It’s fantastic. The only thing I can tell you is what happens at the end. It’s the world upside down. That’s the only thing you don’t talk about in an interview, but here we all know what the end is,” he continued. “I can tell you one thing, Tony Gilroy is a fantastic writer, and he created amazing characters that we got to meet in Andor season one. It’s going to be a very rich second season because all those stories matter today.”

With the greatness of Andor Season 2, Luna can’t help but call it a “true ensemble piece.” Though things started to be very complicated in the first season, he promised the final set of episodes would resolve everything, adding, “Every story matters.”

How will Star Wars: Andor Season 2 lead into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story?

Set five years before the events of Rogue One, Andor Season 1 took place during the first year. Andor Season 2 is adapting a faster pace, with each three-episode arc spanning one of the four years remaining until Rogue One. With 12 episodes in tow, the final three-episode arc and series finale will lead directly into the movie. It may even feature Cassian’s first appearance in the film when he finally meets his informant, Tivik, on the Ring of Kafrene.

After learning about the planet killer, Death Star, Tivik discovered that pilot Bodhi Rook defected from the Empire. So, in Andor Season 2, he may tell Cassian about the Death Star, but the latter has to kill the informant to escape.

As Cassian just joined the Rebellion in the first season finale, the second season would see him climbing the ranks and might be willing to kill an ally like Tivik. This makes Tivik one of the Rogue One characters that may perfectly appear in the show’s second season. If this happens, this will give the movie a new perspective, like what Luna said.

So far, there are no words yet on when Andor Season 2 will be released, but it’s expected to return in 2025. The first season is available on Disney+.
